Our company name Open Source Training and open source is at the heart of what we do. So, it's been an absolute delight to see the astonishing growth of open source in recent years.
Personally, in August of 2006, I left teaching to work full time in open source. The community was far, far smaller than it is today. The first DrupalCon and JoomlaDay had only just been held. The first ever WordCamp was still a week away.
We've already released four classes and a new area of the support forum for SEO and Marketing questions.
This week's new class is YouTube Optimization. YouTube is a huge, free source of traffic and publicity. This class will show you how to optimize your YouTube videos for as many clicks as possible.
Today is the third week of our month-long launch of new SEO classes.
We've already released three classes and a new area of the support forum for SEO and Marketing questions.
This week's new class is Conversion Optimization. This class helps you sell more to your visitors. We start by helping you identify and understand your potential customer. We then show you how to use bonuses, guarantees, discounts and other techniques to convert more visitors to customers.
DrupalCon Prague is in September, and you should come with us.
DrupalCon Prague is going to be one full week of Drupal with sessions, business events, training and strolling around one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
We're delighted to have been chosen to hold training for DrupalCon again.
Our training is called the Absolute Beginners Guide to Drupal.
We're delighted to welcome two new staff members to OSTraining.
Bill Tomczack and Valentin Garcia have joined us over the last few weeks.
If you've been around OSTraining over the last couple of months, you've already seen some of their handiwork.
Bill is our new developer. He's been working under the hood, smoothing out a lot of small bugs on the site.
Valentin is our new designer. He's been very active in our support forum answering WordPress, Joomla and coding questions. And, of course, he's also been redesigning parts of our site.
Today is the second week of our month-long launch of new SEO classes.
Last week we released two classes and a new area of the support forum for SEO and Marketing questions.
This week's new class is Content Marketing. Dan Maynard covers the basics of content marketing. From copywriting to storytelling, Dan explains how to create content that's valuable for your visitors and for search engines.
At the start of August we're heading up to Iowa for the wonderfully named DrupalCorn.
This event is very similar to DrupalCon, except it has an extra "r" and is based in Iowa City.
DrupalCorn is the annual Drupal event for Iowa and this will be the third time its been held.
Rod from the OSTraining team will be going there and giving our 1 day introduction to Drupal called "The Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Drupal."
Today is a happy day for me. OSTraining is going back to its roots.
Back in early 2007, my full-time job was doing SEO for websites. As a sideline, I wrote a Joomla SEO Book. It was just a short PDF, but it was a step into training. The book proved popular and later that year I added videos and a support forum.
During the intervening 6 years, we slowly expanded our focus to include the whole of Joomla, and then Drupal, WordPress and Coding.
Today, I'm delighted to say that we're going back to our roots and adding several new SEO classes to OSTraining. We're also offering SEO and marketing support in our forum.
For many years, OSTraining has taught people how to build websites with Joomla, WordPress and Drupal.
After hundreds of classes, thousands of videos and many thousands of users, OSTraining decided that it was time to refresh their brand. They've asked me to design their new logo and give them an identity that is clear, consistent and, at the same time, keeps them at the forefront of their industry.
My name is Chiara Aliotta. I'm an Italian designer with many years of experience in art direction, graphics, illustration and web design. I've worked with Vodafone, Nivea and many others.
With OSTraining we went through a normal rebranding process. What's different is that the OSTraining team asked me to share that process with you. I'll explain my thoughts on company values, colors, typography, logos and more.
I will share with you what we have achieved so far, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. So keep reading!
If you can make it, we'd love to meet you at Capital Camp in Washington D.C..
The Drupal community is holding Capital Camp during the last week in July.
OSTraining will be at this year's CapitalCamp on July 26th and 27th. We'll also be giving 2 days of Drupal training before the conference on July 22nd and 23rd.
Our new Joomla 3 template design class is now live online.
Vicki Watson is going to show you how to use Joomla and the Bootstrap CSS framework to create beautiful designs.
We already have template design classes available for Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 2.5. However, this new Joomla 3 class is radically different because of the introduction of Bootstrap, which makes designing much easier and quicker.
This class is split into two parts. In the first part, we have over 20 videos that introduce you to Bootstrap. In the second part, we show you to how apply your Bootstrap design to Joomla, using advanced features such as LESS and media queries.
Earlier this month, Rod and Tessa from OSTraining went to J and Beyond 2013 in the Netherlands.
It was a great conference. They had fun, met the European Joomla community, enjoyed the beach and came back with a suntan.
Well, it's all true apart from the last part. It was northern Europe, so had little chance of coming back with a tan, but they did bring back an award for OSTraining.
We won the Best Joomla Service award. This covered the best hosting, training, support and contracting companies.
Drupal Global Training Days is an initiative by the Drupal Association (D.A.) to introduce new and beginning users to Drupal.
Four times every year, the D.A. partners with training companies to hold free and low cost training events.
The next Drupal Global Training Day is this Friday, June 14th, and we're happy to announce that OSTraining is taking part.
This offer ends on Friday night at midnight, New York time.
DrupalCamp Colorado is taking place on the last weekend in June.
This is going to be a fun and enjoyable event. DrupalCamp Colorado is being held in Boulder, right at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. There will be some training on Friday and the camp will be held on both Saturday and Sunday.
OSTraining will be there, and we're also giving a complete 1-day introduction to Drupal on June 28th.
We have also a free ticket to give away for DrupalCamp Colorado.
Some cities are really strong locations for open source.
Austin is one of those cities. The City of Austin, Whole Foods and the University of Texas are just some of the major organizations in the city using Drupal. Oh, and did we mention that DrupalCon 2014 will be in Austin?
In two weeks time, you can come and get an introduction to Drupal at DrupalCamp Austin.
OSTraining is giving a complete 1-day introduction to Drupal on June 22nd.
For our mid-year survey, we'd love to hear your feedback on new ideas for OSTraining.
In return for your feedback, we always have a big stack of prizes on hand.
We're giving away a Nexus 7 tablet, books and OSTraining subscriptions.
We're delighted to launch Drupal 7 Explained, a fun and clear introduction to Drupal. The attendees at our DrupalCon class got the very first copies.
There's a lot of Drupal books on the market, but Drupal 7 Explained is radically different.
We've created Drupal 7 Explained after teaching and speaking with thousands of people like you.
Here are 4 things that area great about Drupal 7 Explained:
Today we merge the two types of training in a new course called "WordPress Custom Content Types".
Earlier this year, we held a live training class in Michigan. For three days, Topher taught a small group of attendees how to code with WordPress. We filmed that class and it's ready for you to watch online.
Topher uses custom content types as a chance to explore WordPress coding in general.
Topher starts by explaining how plugins work and the correct way to approach building them. He then explains content types by creating two: one for staff members and another for the departments they work in. Along the way, Topher touches on everything from how to use the WordPress codex to shortcodes, hooks and custom taxonomies.
If you want to start coding with WordPress, you need to watch "WordPress Custom Content Types".
J and Beyond, an International Joomla! Conference, is back for a fourth year.
From May 31st to June 2nd, Joomla! developers and site builders from over 30 countries will gather in Noordwijkerhout, near Amsterdam.
J and Beyond is one of two big international Joomla conferences every year, with the Joomla World Conference being the other.
We're happy to announce that Rod Martin, our Director of Online Training, will be one of the keynote speakers at J and Beyond 2013.
We're delighted to launch our latest class, "Drupal 7 Scheduler".
One feature that is common with other software but missing with Drupal is the ability to schedule content.
The Scheduler module fills in this gap by allowing you to create content and have it published and unpublished on any day and time you choose.
We're delighted to launch our latest class, "WordPress SEO".
