Poor questions in Web Developer course test

3 years 9 months ago #124441 by Cockroach
How would you view the source of the web page as it’s currently loaded?
Use your browser’s View Source option <-- This will work
Have the Web Developer Addon load the source in your favorite text editor
Use the View Generated Source tool <-- This will work better because the JavaScript generated code will display

The last answer is graded correct, but the first one is okay because it works for the sake of what the question is asking.

There was another question within the test Battery about what browser will Web Developer work in.

FireFox only is graded as the correct answer, but in the course introduction, The instructor, Topher DeRosia, states it was originally developed & worked for FireFox only, but now there are editions for Chrome & Opera. The question is poorly worded. Probably should read:

What web browser was Web Developer originally designed to operate in?

Hi Cockroach,

I think the first question is intended to highlight the nuance of "currently".

If you use the browser's View Source, it won't generated the source of the of the web page as it's currently loaded, but instead it will generate the source of the web page as it initially loaded.

View Generated Source, on the other hand, will generate it based on the current time.

It may seem like a subtle (and trick) question, but in this case I think it's an important distinction to make, since knowing that distinction is likely to save someone from hours of troubleshooting later down the road and learning the hard way (due to js injection after the initial load).

As to the second question, we'll get it changed. Thanks!

Kind regards,
Nick

I agree, View Generated Source provides the developer with more complete information to make his inspection, however, I did not see the word "currently" to affect the output of the source code either way. I knew what the question wanted to see as the correct answer, I just felt both were acceptable answers under that wording. Either way, thank you for taking a look!

Topher DeRosia made his impression with me! I loaded Web Developer & I am using it.

The very best of the day to you, too!
