Upgrade MySQL in MAMP?

Upgrade MySQL in MAMP? was created by Harlequin
Hi All have searched the forums but not found any solutions, I have a clean install of Joomla3 loaded locally using MAMP and SEQUEL PRO
it all loads up fine..
Then.. I add Akeeba admin tools Or RSFirewall and boom, it tells me that every file and folder is a 777. SO I then use the tools to re set the permissions which it starts to do and eventually it fails with a 500 error

The log:
150527 12:18:28 [ERROR] Missing system table mysql.proxies_priv; please run mysql_upgrade to create it

I assume I have set up something wrong but not being a wizzard with MySQL or PHP I could really do with some clear help.
thanks
I am loading MySQL (not lite?)

I have Sequel Pro with MySQL 5.5.42 and PHP is 5.4.39
Thanks

Hi Harlequin,

That appears to be masking over another error. MySQL 5.5 is plenty high enough and it should run without issue.

Are you only using this for local development? If so, I'd recommend just running the folders and files under 777 permission if that's working well. When you move to a remote host, you can run the folders under 755 and the files under 644.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick
No it doesn't appear to be running running correctly, if I add any modules it throws error 500 which normally (I think) starts with a permissions issue? Any other ideas?
Thanks

Hi Harlequin,

Go to a page that generates the 500 error, then on your Mac, go to your:
1) Applications folder
2) Mamp folder
3) logs folder
4) apache_error.log file and edit it
5) Scroll to the bottom of the file and you should see the last error which corresponds to your 500 error.

That should give us a clue of what's causing the issue.

Kind regards,
Nick

OK just re-installed and all install said it was OK, tried installing jck for J3 and I received this error:

OK, great, so looks like it's due to:

Directory index forbidden by Options directive

Are you running Mamp or Mamp Pro?

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Harlequin,

The info is generally safe, since everything is on your local computer and inaccessible via the web. Feel free to edit it out if you'd like.

In MAMP Pro, go to:
1) Hosts
2) Extended
3) check Indexes
4) Apply
5) Restart MAMP Pro

then retry installing the extension and it should hopefully work this time.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick
Thanks for your help...
I followed your instructions; installing the extension or as I did the joomla and template installation. First job is to fix database as there are a number of errors, then correct permissions there are MANY (I don't believe this is a template issue) so it may take some time.
A few points.
The "indexes" doesn't always stay "checked" (ticked) so watch out for that, I had to swith servers off and even cloes MAMP Pro to get this to stick.
Akeeba admin tools looks like it fails to load but when you go back and reload it works fine.
I have yet to install RSfirewall which was a sticking point but I am making progress. If I find any more info or have to do other changes I will post them here. If anyone knows if it's possible to sort file permissions out on install with MAMP Pro I would appreciate the help.
Thanks again

Hi Harlequin,

Great! I'm glad to hear that!

As to file permissions, try going to your MAMP project root (the folder that contains your sites), then right click on that folder and select Get Info. Down at the bottom of the new window, you'll be able to see and adjust the Permissions.

Kind regards,
Nick
