Greetings!
The Joomla 1.5.25 site in question has a members-only area for registered, paid members. We want to install a search module which will NOT display results from the private area. We want to be able to display results for articles that are PUBLIC only.

Can you recommend a search extension for this capability?

Or, am I missing something in the settings for the native search module? I see a Set ItemID that I don't understand, but it seems to only involve menu items, which won't help me, I don't think.

Hi Hope,

Every search should already do this by default. Could you double check please? Make sure you're not logged in when you try it.

For example, on our site if you search for "WordPress 3.3 Course Overview" when you're logged in, you'll see it. However, when logged out, you won't.

Well, as it turns out, my client needs some public pages to be left out of the search results, like thank you pages that appear after a purchase from this store: www.documentaryhowto.com/documentary-dvds-books-and-cds. So I'm thinking of suggesting this: extensions.joomla.org/extensions/search-...ng/site-search/12819 unless you have a better idea. I believe this extension lets you assign the categories being searched, which should work.

That sounds like a good plan for the requirements. Since it's a commercial extension, I would double check with the developers before purchasing. For example, can you select more than one category for the filter since the category filter is singular rather than plural in the description?

Nick, I'm back on this issue and you gave me great advice. I checked with the developer who kindly steered me away from buying his extension with this answer:

I wrote back and asked if he could recommend another extension.
