I am attempting to upgrade my core Joomla from 1.5.11 to 1.5.22. I am using Admin Tools and clicking "upgrade" (rather than re-install) and I get a error mid-way that says: ERROR: The archive file is corrupt, truncated or archive parts are missing". After this my site is down. Which, of course, is not good.
In the interim I am trying to restore the site with my backup.
But moving forward should I try to re-install rather than upgrade? If i do, will this erase anything?

HELP! YIKES!

UPDATE: I also tried re-installing the newest version and got the same error. Any ideas?

Hi bmcmahon,

This means that your server could not download the update patch package. Back in the Joomla! Update page you can find a direct link to the upgrade file. Download it to your PC and then upload in your site's temp-directory (it's the tmp directory on your site's root, unless you changed it from Global Configuration). Admin Tools will figure out that the file is already download and will use it instead of trying to download it from Joomla!'s download repository.

Kind regards,
Nick

Thank you for your help. I am in the server files and i found the tmp file. By "upload" the file do you mean to just paste it into the file? Should I up-zip the upgrade patch file first? Sorry if my questions are dumb, I am a newbe :)

Hi bmcmahon,

Good questions! :) Sorry, let me clarify. Upload (as in move the entire file to the serve) the file (which you downloaded, i.e. Joomla_1.5.22-Stable-Full_Package.zip) into your server's tmp directory. So you will have to use cPanel or ftp for that part. There is no need to unzip, it will do it all for you.

Kind regards,
Nick
