Hello Friends,

I noticed that I have different URLs serving same content.

bit.ly/w3LDvg
bit.ly/yqiIUy
bit.ly/wJbvZa

Can someone please explain to me how to correct this so there are no chances of having internal duplicate content within my site?

Hi Jim,

Are you using a SEF extension? Something doesn't appear quite right about your site's URLs in general.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hello Nick,

Those are not my URLs, at least I cannot find them in my Joomla 2.5 website. Where the URLs are directed to is mine, but I do not recognize the addresses. Can you please explain to me what a SEF extension is?

Best Regards,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Did you recently take over a Joomla site, are you just managing it, or did you build it?

Do you know if you have URL Rewriting/SEF on?

Site > Global Configuration > Search Engine Friendly URL's Set to Yes? Try No... Same with Use URL rewriting, set to No instead if it is on Yes.

I've noticed all your site links does not have rewritten URL's, but they have all been rewritten but doesn't exists, so it redirects to the homepage.

Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero

Hello Tessa,

Thanks for the helpful advice. First, I just paid someone to upgrade the site from 1.5 to 2.5. Second, I bought and installed RSSEO. Third, I did what you suggested I do and checked Global Configuration. Both Search Engine Friendly URL and Use URL rewriting are set to no.

Can you possibly make another suggestion?

Thank you so much.

Jim

Jim,

Your Joomla 2.5 has a redirect component preinstalled. (Not quite sure about previous Joomla versions).

Have you checked inside here to see if you are able to redirect your strange pages to the correct page?

You don't have duplicate content, you just have rewritten URL's that are redirecting to the homepage rather to the correct page.

I think this built in component may solve this issue. Check it out and let me know if it helps.

Remember to always make a backup of your site/database before making any suggested changes. ;-)
Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero

Hi Jim,

I just took a look. Your sef extension, called RSSeo, is creating those URLs. If you're no longer using it, you should uninstall it. If you still plan on using it, you can follow their documentation to get set up:
www.rsjoomla.com/support/documentation/v...gebase/67-rsseo.html

Their step-by-step tutorial would likely be most helpful. Here's a direct link to it:

Hope this helps! 😀

Kind regards,
Nick

Thank you for looking at this for me Nick. You, Tessa and the other members of your team have been quite helpful to me in discovering my problems.
May I inquire exactly what URLs you are referring to? I have so many of them I am having a problem keeping up with all of them.

Best To You!!!

Jim
