TOPIC: Adding a paypal buy now button to my Joomla site

Adding a paypal buy now button to my Joomla site 6 years 10 months ago #32657

Hello,
I'm trying to add a "Buy Now" PayPal button onto my web site so I can sell one item. I created code on the PayPal site and copied the code into a module and an article. On the front end I can see the "buy now" buttons, but when I click on it I get directed right back to the front page of my web site, not the PayPal web site. I contacted PayPal. They had me paste their button code into notepad and save it as an .htm file so I could test it. I did as they directed and when I opened up that file, and click on the button I was taken to the PayPal web site, which tells me that the code works. But it doesn't work in Joomla. I am using Joomla 1.6 for this project. Do you have any thoughts that might help?

Thanks,
Dave.

Hi Dave

The most likely problem is that the code won't work until you turn the editor off. You can do that by clicking the "Toggle Editor" button at the bottom of text area you're putting the code into and saving the article with the editor off.

You can also use a module like this:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/osdonate/ No code needed.

OK, Let me see if I understand you correctly . . . I use JCE editor on this site. When I input code into an article or module, I click on [show/hide] which is above the text area, then I paste in the code, click save, and then maybe click on [show/hide] to show the JCE editor again. Sometimes I leave the page without doing that. I can't seem to find the "Toggle Editor" button at the bottom of the text area. I have "article, image, page break, read more" at the bottom of the text area, but nothing else.

So, just for the record, when I insert the code for the button, I do it with the editor off by clicking on the [show/hide] and then I save my work before clicking on it again.

Would the osdonate work for "buy now"?

Thanks for your help,
Dave

Steve,

I took the code for the PayPal button that I am trying to install on my site, and I installed it on a different site, a Joomla 1.5 site, and the button worked. Then I tried the button on a different 1.7 site that uses a different template than the one I am having trouble with, and it worked on that site also.

For some reason it will not work on the site I need it to work on.

Wow, any more ideas on what I could try to make it work?

Dave.

Hi Dave

Yes, I think I know what this might be.

Go to Content > Article Manager > Options > Text Filters > set your user level to No Filtering.

I tried it, it still didn't work.

Should I approach this problem from a different direction. There is only one product for sale on this site, and shipping is included in the price. I thought that the paypal "buy now" button would be the easiest way to make this work. Should I consider a simple e-commerce extension? I've never set one up, would you suggest one for me to try? Or should I consider your donate module? Can I change the words "Donate" to "Buy Now"?

Or any other ideas?

Thanks,
Dave.

Hi Dave,

First, make sure you update your Joomla version to the latest 1.7.2. Here's the tutorial how:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-up...min-tools-extension/

Can we get a link to the page to take a quick look? What was the version before upgrading to 1.7.2? 1.6.what?

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

I originally had 1.7.0. I just now followed your instructions and installed Admin Tools and now I am at 1.7.2. The link to the site is www.highpayjobs.biz
If you need any more information please let me know. You will find the Buy Now button on the right side of every page in the right module position. I also put it in an article under the Package menu item, just to play around with it.

Thanks for taking a look,

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Looks like the code is already stripped. You can check by copying the code that you have into an html file on your computer then open up the file with your browser and notice that it doesn't go anywhere. Here's the solution, get the clean code from paypal and then go to your custom module, hit the hide editor text for JCE and then paste it and save. It show work for you after that.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your direction. I followed your plan and pasted the code into the article. It worked. I then created a module on the right side and pasted it into there, following the same steps, and it doesn't work. Not sure what is going on. You see I used your method and pasted the code into several different web sites and it worked every time. This one is being difficult. I would like the button on the right module position so that it appears on every page. Maybe I will just link it to an article and be done with it.

Thanks,
Dave.

Hi Dave,

Try this. Get the clean code from paypal and then go your administrator >> users >> user manager >> your username >> editor >> none >> save and close. Then go to the module and paste it in there.

Nick
