Embedded video

Embedded video was created by diamondmaxx
We have a number of installation videos linked to many of our products - everything is working just fine. However, it links to YouTube and the question is....can we embed the actual video in our site and the viewer still view the video without being sent to YouTube.

In other words, we would like viewers to be able to view these videos by NOT going off the site to YouTube and remain on the site at all times. Will embedding these videos cause more of a strain on our website speeds?

Or perhaps just link to the YouTube video but not show or reveal you are on YouTube and when exiting the video still be on our product page?

Thanks,
Maxx

Hi Maxx,

You can embed YouTube videos in your articles and custom HTML modules, so your users doesn't need to go to YouTube.com site.

We recommend OSYouTube to make the embed easier.

Not sure I see how this plug in works. I already have a link to the videos on YouTube - easy enough using the standard editor. We bought this plugin and want to use it to play a video that is resident on YouTube and not go to YouTube when selected.

Example - go to madjax.com = Products = Performance = select the 2nd product 25-001. Now select the video installation instructions. Note that you remain on the Madjax site and the URL shows this. Now to to golfcarsetc.com - madjax accessories - performance categroy - 1st product 25-001 again. You see the same video but are on the YouTube site.

This is what we want and expect this plugin to accomplish this - again not sure how this differs from just linking an image or text to the YouTube video which we have been doing.

Does this make any sense?

Thanks,
Maxx

Hi Maxx,

madjax.com is just a landing page and doesn't have a menu. Could you clarify the steps?

By the way, if you have the Pro version of OSYouTube, there's a setting within the plugin (Extensions -> plugins -> OSYouTube) that turns off converting links into videos. It will only convert the URL if it's plain text. That option can be turned off, or the link can be removed in the article.

We also have a getting started article at www.alledia.com/docs/osyoutube/start/ that you can use to double check your work.

Looking forward to helping.

Kind regards,
Nick

Oops...try mymadjax.com - select products - select performance - select product 25-001 - select the video installation image.

I am about to try your suggestion.

Thanks,
Maxx

That didn't work. Once you compare how the video is displayed on mymadjax.com vs our site golfcarsetc.com, you'll see how the video just pops up in the middle of the screen on the majax site and you don't see anything about youtube, whereas on our site, you are transferred to youtube.

I changed the final setting on the OSyoutube Pro on the bottom left side - I assume that is the setting your referred me to.

Thanks,
Maxx

Hi Maxx,

Thanks for clarifying!

The issue is that you're linking to YouTube, so what's happening is exactly what would be expected. Instead of linking to YouTube, you should use one of the following two approach:

1) Insert the URL there, and that will embed the video on that page.
2) Convert that link into a Modal so that it has the same functionality as mymadjax:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/modals-joomla/

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick
