Site Security and inside a NUTJOBS HACKER HEAD

Site Security and inside a NUTJOBS HACKER HEAD was created by honeyflowfarm
I thought I would open a dialog on some nutjob hacker messing with my sites. I have a music related site ( www.lapeercountyconcertchoir.com ) that for a long time someone has been adding fraudulent logins. Sometimes 3-4/day. I have have changed the login settings so they need email confirmation and that has slowed down some.

A while back I noticed that I was getting a lot of new people signing up to my ACY mailing newsletter. Sounds good - right!

Then on my other site (no relation to the music site) ( www.honeyflowfarm.com ) I was also seeing a lot of newsletter sign ups. Then I saw some of the same email addresses sign up on both sites - there is really no logical connection.

Then I started sending quick thank you notes to the addresses expecting that they would bounce back - but they did not.

Then I changed the ACY mailing sign up to need email confirmation on both sites. Still getting 4-8 /day but none were confirmed. I also sent a few messages to some saying I think their address was spammed and asking if they really signed up - but no response.

Since the addresses do not bounce - I am guessing my nutjob hacker got hold of a list of valid email addresses and is using them.

I do not think anyone can figure out what is in this persons head. If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate the input.

So far no real damage has been done, except a few hundred not valid email addresses have been added to our lists.

Hi honeyflowfarm,

Just make sure that all your site are on at least Joomla 3.4.8 or higher. Then give OSPam-a-not a try:

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick
