issues with joomla 2.5 to 3 migration

5 years 5 months ago - 5 years 5 months ago #125517 by ginnys
Hi,

I've just attempted to upgrade from 2.5 to 3.3. I followed the standard advice given but have a bit of a mess now.

Backend access no longer works. Typing administrator results in the homepage appearing.

I am still in the backend after the initial upgrade but it doesn't give me access. For instance I tried to go into manage extensions to reactive rememberme plugin but it just leads to the homepage.

First time I tried upgrading got the white page of death, whereas this time it works a little. Can't access the joomla version, but the fact that the site is hit & miss would indicate it has updated. A couple of pages show, others lead to a server error.

On the backend page, only control panel seems to work, everything else redirects to homepage.

In control panel is a message saying you have post installation messages to review. When I click review messages it says error 404 component not found

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Hi and welcome, Ginny!

Looks like it only partially completed. Could you give the following tutorial a try to reset things?
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-reset-joomla/

You'd need to use the version that you updated to (e.g. 3.3.6).

Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

I'm just going through the steps. Install option doesn't work, so can't fix permissions.

Installed joomla upgrade manually with ftp (followed steps to copy upgrade zip into public_html & extract. This hasn't changed anything though & ended up getting rid of my partial access to the backend.

thanks

Hi Ginny,

Would you send us some login credentials (admin and cPanel if possible) to support@ostraining.com so we can debug it for you? Also, please do two things for us:
1) In the email, include a link to this forum post
and
2) After sending the email, reply to this forum post letting us know you sent the email so that we can check it.

Looking forward to helping.

Kind regards,
Nick

Thanks! All fixed :)

I did a lot of debugging, way too much to list here, but basically the issue was that the update only partially completed. The database wasn't fully in sync with the files, so I had to do a lot of workarounds to get it synced up again.

Kind regards,
Nick

You're very welcome, Ginny! I'm glad the site's working well for you. It was a very tough issue to resolve, so don't be hard on yourself. The good news is that things should be a lot smoother from here now that you're on Joomla 3.

Kind regards,
Nick
