Modules are not display in Module Manager

5 years 9 months ago #121590 by paulbe
Hi,

I've installed three modules (2x) using via extension manager. The modules are not displayed in Module Manager. I do see the appropriate plugins and the files are under modules directory. The extensions are easylogoscroller and elastislide, and superfish_menu. The permissions are 0755 for the folder and 0644 for the files,

Eventually the module "Easy Responsive Logo Scroller" is displayed. When I select it within Module Manager, it gives me a server 500 error.

Can you point me in the right direction to understand why it is not seen? I am using Joomla 3.3.6,

Hi paulbe,

May I have the link to downloads those modules and test in local?

Also, consider updating to Joomla 3.4.8 through Components > Joomla update - see if makes any difference

Kind regards,
Valentín

Attached are the links.

When I press the Control Panel > Maintenance > Unknown Joomla, I get this error:

1054 Unknown column 'a.extra_query' in 'field list' SQL=SELECT DISTINCT a.update_site_id, a.type, a.location, a.last_check_timestamp, a.extra_query FROM rr673_update_sites AS a INNER JOIN rr673_update_sites_extensions AS b ON a.update_site_id = b.update_site_id WHERE a.enabled = 1 AND b.extension_id = 700

Not sure why I cannot upgrade to Joomla 3.4.8, When I go through Components > Joomla update I get the same error.

Thanks,
Paul

I removed the extensions from your reply, since at least one of them is commercial.
I installed the 3 extensions in a Joomla 3.4.8 site, they are available from Module manager.

Go to Extensions > Extensions manager > Database > Fix (on top-left)

Then, go to Extensions > Extensions manager > Discover > Discover button (on top-left).
Install any listed extension.

Then retry the Joomla update from Components > Joomla update

Kind regards,
Valentín

Thanks! Your suggestion worked for upgrading Joomla. I see the modules within Module Manager, but when I click to open them, I get the 500 server error. Clicking on details provided this additional information:

The website encountered an error while retrieving olivercobb.com/administrator/index.php?o...e&layout=edit&id=131 . It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

Your thoughts?

Kind regards,
Paul

Now, all the modules are giving me the same 500 error. Any ideas?

Hi Paul,

Fix permissions following this old tutorial that works for Joomla 3.x as well: www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/admin-too...nd-file-permissions/

See if makes any difference

HI Valentín,

Thanks for the link. I was able to upload admin tools, tried the change and configuration permissions and the same problem occurs,

Do you have a plan B?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

A 500 error is an internal server error, which usually means that there's a misconfiguration of the server with the software that's being run or something similar. Since it's at the server level, the error gets logged in the server error log with a detailed message. This detailed error message is usually key to figuring out what the specific issue is, which in turn is key to resolving it.

That being said, could you contact your host to ask them to check the server error log for you, as to why you're getting the 500 error?

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

My hosting provider checked out the error log, file permissions in the directories, as well as the .htaccess file. Everything appeared normal. I tried to google the error which came up with server attempts.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Thanks Paul! Looks like it's an issue with JCE. Please try uninstalling it, then reinstalling it again.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, please report the following bug to JCE"s developer:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function wfimport() in /home4/oliverco/public_html/components/com_jce/editor/libraries/classes/editor.php on line 249

He'll be able to resolve it quickly for you.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

Thanks for the tip. When I uninstall JCE Editor, the modules appears as normal without an 500 server error, When I reinstall JCE, the problem re-occurs. Will contact JCE support.

Submitted a ticket to JCE. Here is another observation:

I was able to troubleshoot and recreate the issue. My modules are form maker, OS downloads, Elastislide, and Easy Response Logo Scroller.

.After reinstalling JCE editor, version 2.5.12, the problem occurs when I switch editors. Under Global configuration > Site Settings > Site, if my default editor is set to Editor - JCE, I can duplicate the server error. If I change the editor to TinyMCE, None, or CodeMirror, everything is fine.

Thanks,
Paul

I have another side question. I want to make my URLS more user friendly. There was a topic using Joomla 2.5. Is there another one for 3.x? This had to do with rename .htaccess.txt.

If not, can you send me a link?

Thanks,
Paul

It works in same way for Joomla 3.x actually. Here is the link to a tutorial that works for any version.

If you have any concern, don't hesitate to ask.
