Course support: Retaking tests

Course support: Retaking tests was created by Cockroach
I would like to retake a couple of the tests I have taken. While I passed, I am not satisfied with anything less than perfection. Also, I find, after being graded, the correct answers are not provided. I would like the feedback to review what I did not retain.

I have also found, upon 3rd or 4th review, answers which were scored as correct responses, marked as incorrect when I attempt to return to the test. Yet, the score remains! If they were correct once, why are they incorrect upon a later review?

Courses of concern:
Why Joomla!?
Joomla 3 Beginner.

Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome, Roger!

Thanks for the feedback!

We've added the retake feature to our list of upcoming features. We're currently recreating our software that powers the courses area of the site. We're close to completion and should be able to launch it in February sometime.

As to the correct answers, that's also on the list. This one will be a top priority once the new software is launched.

Regarding correct responses being switched, could you give us an example quiz and question so we can look into it further for you?

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer. Looking forward to helping more.

Kind regards,
Nick

Nick, thank you for prompt reply! I am delighted to read your message that test retake & correct answers will be shown when a test is graded. When I started the "Why Joomla!?" course, I do recall briefly seeing a settings page which said I could retake the tests an unlimited amount of times. I did't get to read all of those settings for the page only displayed for about 3 seconds & I have not seen it sense. I don't know where that report came from, but being my first course with OS Training, I expected it was something with my account.

Now, the switching of responses when a test is reviewed. The "Why Joomla!?" test scored me with a 86% with one question answered incorrectly one time. While I steered away to review what I answered incorrectly, when I returned the score became 71% with 4 of the 7 questions graded as incorrect responses. That would be 43% which is not a passing grade. Answers which were correct once are now graded as incorrect responses. What I had marked as a response was not shown. Below is the test report with a little hand editing to show some detail about what I presently see.

Quiz Results:

Your Score 71%
You passed! Your score: 71%. Minimum score to pass is: 70% Congratulations! You passed!

1. There are 5 kinds of extensions in Joomla. Which is not one of them? - scored as an incorrect!
• Components
• Modules
• Tags --- I know this is the answer Scored as incorrect!
• Languages
• Templates
• Plugins

2 There are 4 steps to manually install Joomla. Which of these is NOT one of them? - scored as an incorrect!
• Entering configuration information
• Entering database information
• Deleting the installation folder
• Looking over the pre-installation checklist
• Editing the core files --- I know this is the correct answer Scored as incorrect!

3. In the CASh Content Workflow, the "Sh" stand for "Show", but how do you show things in Joomla?- scored as an incorrect!
• Plugins
• Menus --- I believe this is the correct answer. Scored as incorrect!
• Components
• Templates

4. Where do you go to add meta data to your Joomla articles?- scored as an incorrect!
• Content Tab
• Publishing Tab --- I know this is the correct answer! Scored as incorrect!
• Access Tab
• Options Tab

5. Which of these workflows can best explain Joomla's access control? - Scored correct
• Groups > Permissions > Users
• Groups > Access > Users
• Users > Access > Groups

6. How can you override any of the default text on your Joomla site? - Scored correct
• You can go to Extensions > Language Manager
• You can edit the language files in the languages folder
• You must export all the language files, edit them and then re-import

7. How do you manage Joomla on a mobile device? - Scored correct
• Add a new responsive template
• Enable several plugins
• Do nothing. Joomla just works on mobile

Last of all, as a trouble shooting aid, it would be helpful if every test have an identifier of the course, category within the course the test applies to & an identifier number of the question within the test. When a report is made about the grader or question, the identifier prevents the student from going thorough all the work I just did to provide the OS Training Support team all of the above. And, if the handling of a student question is transferred to another OS Training Support person, identification of the issue is a quick matter.

Thank you for the fast response!

Hi Roger,

You're welcome!

Regards the message about being able to retake a quizzes an unlimited time, that's at the top of each quiz that hasn't been taken.

As to the quiz calculation issues you found, you've spotted some of the many bugs we've encountered with our current software, which we purchased from another vendor as a Joomla extension. It's been buggy for our users and for us, so we've been creating our own custom solution for OSTraining. We're set to launch it in February, so things should be much better from then.

Great suggestion about the identifier! I'll add that to the list. Thanks Roger!

Kind regards,
Nick

Yes I know of buggy extensions. I purchased one which is well known & I had eyes on it's companion product. While the first product was well explained & very well supported, the companion product was what I needed for it's capability that the pilot product could not perform. That is where the support team changed & the skills of that support team were horrible! No replies, poor answers, or just about a response of, "Figure it out for yourself!" The developer was supporting it & he made it clear that support for his product was something he was going to do when he felt like & the nature of the response was at the whim of his daily mood of abusing customers!

I painfully know the experience the support team is going through! I will bet my next paycheck, the OS Training management is appalled by the vendor's attitude about fixing the problem or offering support! But development work of such a product is a long process if you don't have the skills & have to learn them just to develop it!

Yes! A question identifier is how to quickly identify a question. Something like, J3B-CQ-#3 (Joomla! 3 Beginner - Create Quiz - #3) guides one right down to the question & the responses which someone needs help or assistance with.

In the event there are course, quiz or question revisions, add a "V" with a number. (J3Bv1 - CQv4 - #5v7) Joomla! 3 Beginner course revision 1 - Create Quiz revision 4 - Question #5 revision 7).

Thanks! Roger

Hi Roger,

Sorry to hear about your support experience with the extension! Thankfully at OSTraining we value support for our customers and put it at the apex of our business. So hopefully you'll be very happy with us long-term.

Good news! We're planning on implementing your feature suggestions sometime after our launch. It won't be right away since we have higher priority items, but we do plan on getting them implemented. The bug fixes will come right away with the launch though.

Kind regards,
Nick
