Joomla 2.5.x to 3.x Akeeba kickstart file location

5 years 9 months ago #121197 by eguido
Hi,
I'm in the process of upgrading my Joomla 2.5.28 to 3.x. I'm setting up the recommended development site & I'm confused. I'm going thru' the tutorial and go stuck at step 7.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/test-site-akeeba-backup/

Is there a different tutorial I can follow?

I don't know how to get the Kickstart php file into the proper location. I don't know where to upload the Kickstart zip file. Wouldn't it be easier to just install a new Joomla site and just copy over all the files?

Thank you.

Hi Emily,

That tutorial's the easiest route. You don't want to just copy of the files, since that would mean the database is the same and any change in one will appear in the other.

For the kickstart.zip file, you can unzip it. Then in it you'll see a kickstart.php file. That single file should be moved to the Joomla root of the test site folder.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

HI Nick,
This tutorial is difficult for me to follow.
I'd unzipped and copy and paste the kickstart.php file to the root folder. I'd tried visiting what I thought was the proper path, and several other options. No luck.

I took a screen shot. May be you can help?

Thank you. Emily

Hi Emily,

If you go to yoursite.com/moveme/ what do you see? Paste the url of your site if possible

Upload the backup file (.jpa or .zip), jquery.min.js and json2.min.js in the same location of kickstart.php

Note: jquery.min.js and json2.min.js comes from the zip when you downloaded kickstart

Kind regards,
Valentín

Hi Emily,

Based off of the screenshot, you're missing the backup file. The kickstart.php simply "unzips" the backup for and starts the process of installing it. But, it needs the backup file to be in the same folder.

Once the backup is there, go to your site's URL and add kickstart.php to the URL.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

Yeah. I think I'm figuring that out too. I have the backup file (.jpa) on my desktop and I'll load it up into the same folder and try. Thanks for your help.
