Database Error: Unable to connect to the database

5 years 11 months ago - 5 years 11 months ago #120678 by Expert3632
I have been following the steps to upgrade a Joomla 1.5 site to Joomla 3. During the process, I created a new SQL database as instructed. I did not complete the upgrade due to an error in the process while using the Red Migrator tool, and now I cannot connect to the front or backend of the site.

I started by doing both a backup through the Cpanel and an Akeeba backup, but since I can't get into the back end, I can't use the Akeeba backup.

Do I attempt to reinstall the backup through the Cpanel, or is there a way to reconnect the database?

Hi and welcome to OSTraining Expert3632,

To reconnect to the database, check the file configuration.php and look for the database details:
public $host = 'your-database-host';
public $user = 'your-database-user';
public $password = 'your-database-password';
public $db = 'your-database-name';
public $dbprefix = 'your-database-prefix_';

Update those values to use the right ones.

Kind regards,
Valentín
