Extensions upload error

5 years 11 months ago #120294 by JoomlaNovice
Extensions upload error was created by JoomlaNovice
Prerequisite information:
This issue started showing up when I updated to joomla 3.4.3 via the oneclick update.
I didnt/add change any extension setting before this issue surfaced.
Before and after the error, the host was the same, the error surfaced all by its own.

The error:
In yellow background
"Warning
JLIB_FILESYSTEM_ERROR_WARNFS_ERR03"
In red background
"Error
There was an error uploading this file to the server."

This is shown, whenever I try to install any extension when I upload it from desktop, and obviously the extension is not installed. As mentioned earlier, I didnt install any extra extension, nor do I remember making any changes in extension settings.
I asked my host about it, they told me "after interrogation, it looks like Joomla Uploadshield is preventing the extension from being uploaded"
I dont use any "nulled" extensions, and download only from trusted sources. What should I do to resolve this error?

However, if I install any extension directly from JED, it installs fine. I bypass this message by uploading the extension elsewhere, and putting the direct download link in "Install from URL" extension installation method.

Hi JoomlaNovice,

Be sure you updated to Joomla 3.4.6. Confirm from Components > Joomla Update
Check the tmp and log folders paths are correct through:
  • System > Global configuration > Server > Path to Temp Folder
  • System > Global configuration > System > Path to Log Folder
For that last, it will help to go to System > System information > Folder permissions and check both are writable:

All you mentioned is fine, plus everything under System > System information > Folder permissions is writable, and all folders and files have correct permissions. The only difference is logs are stored on a folder /log instead of /logS.
Anything else I need to check on, to solve the issue?

Do some maintenance:

1) Create and download a backup:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/test-site-akeeba-backup/

2) Fix your folder and file permission using Admin Tools:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/admin-too...nd-file-permissions/

3) Download the following package:
github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/releases/do...ble-Full_Package.zip

then install it from Extensions >> Manage , as you would an extension.

4) Go to Extensions >> Manage >> Database >> Fix

That should reset all your core files to 3.4.6 as well as your database.

5) Clear your browser's cache as well as your site cache.

Kind regards,
Valentín

0- Updated to latest joomla version
1- Done
2- Done, mentioned that already
3- 3.1 - Joomla stable full package, I highly doubt if it can be installed as an extension.
3.2 - Even if what you are saying is right and possible, please read the question again. The main problem is, that the extension - manage - upload is not working, no matter what I do, it shows the two errors I mentioned.
4- Am seeing errors:
Table 'cmb_banners' does not have column 'created_by'. (From file 3.0.0.sql.)
Table 'cmb_banners' does not have column 'created_by_alias'. (From file 3.0.0.sql.)
Table 'cmb_banners' does not have column 'modified'. (From file 3.0.0.sql.)
Table 'cmb_banners' does not have column 'modified_by'. (From file 3.0.0.sql.)
Table 'cmb_banners' does not have column 'version'. (From file 3.0.0.sql.)
When I hit fix, this error comes up
1146 Table 'instruco_cmb.cmb_banners' doesn't exist SQL=ALTER TABLE `cmb_banners` ADD COLUMN `created_by` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL DEFAULT '0';
5- Done, site cache is automatically cleared by nonumber clean cache, and the problem occurs in incognito window too, so I dont think its due to browser cache?

Anything else I can do? I dont use banners anyway, so I dont think the fix db has got anything to do..

Hi JoomlaNovice,

3- 3.1 - Joomla stable full package, I highly doubt if it can be installed as an extension.

Yes, you can install Joomla core in the same way you install an extension. I do that very often in my personal projects.
When you try, be sure to use the zip package of the same Joomla version you have.

When I hit fix, this error comes up
1146 Table 'instruco_cmb.cmb_banners' doesn't exist SQL=ALTER TABLE `cmb_banners` ADD COLUMN `created_by` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL DEFAULT '0';
5- Done, site cache is automatically cleared by nonumber clean cache, and the problem occurs in incognito window too, so I dont think its due to browser cache?

Go to Extensions >> Manage > Database > Fix
What message do you get after doing click in "fix" button?

Kind regards,
Valentín

This is the message I see after trying to fix database.

I removed banners component and everything related to it via extensions - manage, didn't delete database tables...

Hi JoomlaNovice,

Download github.com/joomla-extensions/banners/archive/master.zip , then unzip it. Go into the src folder and zip its contents into a file. You can use that file to reinstall banners.

Then run the database fix again. Once it works, you can uninstall banners again.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

Coming back to the MAIN question:

My MAIN concern - Me not able to install any extension via the extension manager, as it is not uploaded successfully.

That is my only concern, I uninstalled banners, @nick is telling me to reinstall banners. I made a new demo at cloudaccess.net, downloaded github.com/joomla-extensions/banners/archive/master.zip , unzipped and zipped the src folder contents, tried to install in demo site I created. It is showing package error, so most probably the file you linked me to seems to be improper/out of date, or am I going wrong somewhere?

Is it COMPULSORY for me to install banners and fix DB to get the extension manager working again? That is the only concern, if banners is not related to extension manager problem I will not install it back after you give me a right link.

Hi JoomlaNovice,

Good question!

Yes, unfortunately, it's necessary for continuing to troubleshoot the issue as Valentin described in www.ostraining.com/support-forum/joomla-...upload-error/#120406

Without Banners, the database fix is stalling. It's likely not related to the database fix though, but it's worth checking. The steps prior to the database fix are more likely to help with this situation.

That being said, JLIB_FILESYSTEM_ERROR_WARNFS_ERR03 is related to the Joomla upload shield that was addded in Joomla 3.4.1. It might be triggering a false positive and/or it might be buggy.

If you're certain you're on Joomla 3.4.8, then please report the issue at issues.joomla.org/ . You'll need to mention the file that's triggering the error too.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

We are trying to figure out what is causing the issue. There could be many possibilities.
If you go to System > Systen information > PHP information
What value is for "upload_max_filesize"?

Kind regards,
Valentín

Okay, we have a few problems here then:
1. The joomla upload and install extension method is not working. That is what the main issue is about, so I cant install banners manually.
2. Although, I can install banners by uploading it somewhere, and putting the file link in 'upload from URL'. However, to do this, point 3 needs to be solved.
3. Can you PLeasE verify if the banner file you linked to, works indeed? Just make a new installation and try installing the package? Because a fresh vanilla joomla trial site on cloudaccess.net isnt accepting the package, so is my site. Please note that I have unzipped and uploading correct files like you said.
4. """"""""""""That being said, JLIB_FILESYSTEM_ERROR_WARNFS_ERR03 is related to the Joomla upload shield that was addded in Joomla 3.4.1. It might be triggering a false positive and/or it might be buggy.

The extensions I use are famous ones like akeeba admin tools etc which install on any site without issues, so the problem is not with false positives. Let me know what I can do, now.

""If you go to System > Systen information > PHP information

You are thinking, if extension is HUGE, which it is not, the maxsize upload may be causing the problem. However, as I mentioned earlier, the host has not changed, nor has any php setting, plus the extension is small, a few hundred KBs :)

Well,
upload_max_filesize is 1024M local value and master value.
The extension is www.tassos.gr/joomla-extensions/responsi...gered-box-for-joomla and weighs 134Kb.
Even if the extensin was in MBs, it would install properly, right?
As I keep mentioning, nothing has changed, no host setting, it must be definitely a problem occuring when I updated joomla...

Thanks JoomlaNovice!

Looks like it's due to your "System - System Restore Points" plugin which comes with AkeebaBackup. If it's disabled, installation of extensions works fine.

Also, looks like there's an update for AkeebaBackup. Please install the update and I'm guessing the bug is already fixed in the latest version of AkeebaBackup.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.
