Trying to use Rules to send comment to node author

5 years 7 months ago #122795 by davidmcmurrey
I have notes based on 7.34 I took last year. Using 7.41 this year there are some differences which prevent this from working (admin comment on test user; no e-mail to test user).

Do you have a tutorial on this topic?

Hi David,

Here's our class on Rules to get you going:
www.ostraining.com/classes/drupal/rules/

Are you getting any error messages? Have you checked with your hosting company to see if the email server is working or if there are error logs as to why the emails aren't sending?

Also, be sure to update to 7.42 for some bug fixes. Also, double check that you're on the latest version of Rules (7.x-2.9).

In the mean time, I'll also check with Steve and see if he has any specific advice on sending the comment to a node author.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions and we'll be glad to answer.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hey David

This is an older tutorial, but it may help (it actually avoids Rules):

Thanks. In Brian's Creating a New Rule, at 2:41 I get an error when I try to enter comment:author as he does. However, I have just upgraded to 7.42 and will try again.

But let me try this other tutorial. I have 5 students about to pounce on you! I'm recommending you guys over Geller @ lynda.com -- David

Thanks David

If either of those need updating, we'd be happy to do that.

I appreciate the recommendation over Lynda. Tom Geller is a good guy. We've met a few times before. But he left Drupal last year tomgeller.com/category/blog-category/drupal-planet Lynda stopped adding Drupal classes back in about 2012.

Giving up on rules. When I click Data comparison, I have no way to enter comment:author. Phooey

As for my students, I will ask them to send me questions first.

Hi David,

When I click Data comparison, I have no way to enter comment:author.

May you elaborate? Also, share an screensot about the step when you're having problems, if possible
