I don't know how to decipher this error or what do about it:

Hi David

The short version is that Drupal is saying it can't access your database.

Can you talk us through how and when this error occurred? Does it happen only one some pages or did it bring down the whole site permanently?

I changed the password into the DB before getting this error. I changed it again to ensure I had not messed up. That's probably it. But I don't know how or where to change the password correctly.

Hi David

Your database information will be in /sites/default/settings.php

If you change your database password, make sure to change it in that file also.

I could not edit settings.php, even after I changed 444 to 755 -- but that was in cPanel. So I just changed the DB password back to the original one. Working now! Thank you again. -- David
