Question on Breadcrumbs

4 years 8 months ago #120457 by rickpaul
Question on Breadcrumbs was created by rickpaul
I am using the Bartik theme on my Drupal 8 site to help me learn Drupal (with the help of your videos). However, while Home page shows in the breadcrumbs, the pages I've added are not visible (see attached screenshot).

Any suggestions on how to display the page name in the breadcrumbs?

Thanks for your help! I don't see a version for Drupal 8, but I'll keep it on my radar.

Hi Rick

Breadcrumbs are a pain in almost every dynamic CMS like Drupal. The reason is, everything is in the database. There is no real hierarchy and so CMSs do a bad job of organizing breadcrumbs.

The way this basic breadcrumbs system works is by relying on the menu. It tries to understand the site hierarchy through the menu. So, if you don't have any sub-menus, you won't have a hierarchy.

My question for you is ... will your site become big enough to need breadcrumbs to help your visitors navigate?

Right now, I'm just learning how to use the features in Drupal 8, so breadcrumbs is one I'm experimenting with. There's a good chance I will never implement breadcrumbs, so don't burn up too much of your valuable time on this issue. Thanks for your insight so far... it's been a valuable contribution to my Drupal education.

Thanks Rick

This is an issue that comes up often, so I think it's passed time for me to write a blog post with a good explanation.

I'll aim to publish that today.
