Drupal 7.41 Forums

Drupal 7.41 Forums was created by jcross
I see this issue all over the Drupal forums - I'm using the 7.41 core and activated the Forums module. I've given both administrators and authenticated users access to the forum administration.

When I log in as a regular/authenticated user - when I access the Forums I see the message "You are not allowed to post new content in the forum". I've followed the suggestions of uninstalling/reinstalling the Forums module and I'm still getting this error.

This issue seems to have existed since the introduction of Drupal 7. There's a lot out there about having to go into the database and make field changes. I would assume by the release of 7.41 this would have been resolved.

What is the RIGHT way to correct this issue so Forums is working as it's supposed to be????

NOTE - I also tried installing the Advanced Forums and I still get this same error so it looks like it has to be fixed at the core level Forums first before moving onto the Advanced Forums.

The website is under development on my local host and not viewable. I can send you all the screen shots you like - just tell me where to begin.

Thanks

Jim

Thanks Jim

I don't see any screenshots here or via support@ostraining.com? Is it possible to re-attach or re-send them?

I do see a lot of mentions of this bug and a few possible solutions such as this: www.drupal.org/node/1157142#comment-7273122 Have you tried any of those fixes?

Do you have any modules that might interfere with permissions such as Domain Access, Content Access or Organic Groups?

I've been out of town for a week - I'll jump back on this issue and be back in touch.

I did read the article referenced in the link above....going into the database and renaming items with a table seemed risky - PLUS this article is over 3 years old and I would have thought this would have been fixed by now.

To reiterate - my issue is not with the administrator being able to post - but with giving permissions to authenticated users and getting the message "You are not allowed to post new content in the forum".

I've uninstalled the core 7.41 Forums module - removed the content created within the forums - reinstalled the Forums module and the error continues to persist.

Not always I'm afraid. It's not unusual for problems to sit for a while if only a small number of people encounter it.

In fact, it looks as if it may be caused by Advanced Forums, so that may make the bug even rarer. Advanced Forums does seems to the common link in many reports of this: www.drupal.org/node/1349828#comment-6292864

One other angle ... have you checked to see whether your Forum terms are set up correctly under Structure > Taxonomy?

When I go into Structure->Taxonomy I get (see attachments). Is there something different I should be seeing?

jcross, no that looks correct.

Sadly, it's hard to see where else this problem could be, beside the database.

I think your best option at this point would be create a test site and try to run the suggested database fixes on that test site.

I spent most of this evening going through the entire process of modifying the database - reinstalling the Forums module - and seeing the same results as before. But what I did find within one of the Drupal blogs was there is another set of permissions that need to be set. Simply going to the Forms module and selecting permissions isn't enough.

The solution was simple - just go into People -> Permissions and opt for specific Forums permissions (see attached).

Something so simple :) Now - onto why my Photo Album isn't working.

Ah, that's wonderful news, thanks jcross

Sorry, I guess we overlooked that as too simple a solution. My apologies.

I suspect this same issue probably occurs in several different situations. Sometimes it's a real bug, and sometimes its the permissions.
