Gallery with multiple images

5 years 1 month ago #115160 by Zusamna
Gallery with multiple images was created by Zusamna
I'm looking for recommendations for a gallery. I do not want to put each individual image into a content type, some of my galleries that I'm bringing over from the static site have 30-40 images in them.

I'm looking at Juicebox and the Drupal plugin, not sure if there is anything else that might be a nice simple gallery with thumbnails across the bottom.

Here's a good sampling of the galleries I need to reproduce in my new Drupal environment:

Thanks!

Hi Zusamna

You could use Views for all of this: www.ostraining.com/blog/drupal/photo-gallery-drupal-7/

The images could just be uploaded via a single image field.

Then you could add Colorbox, Views slideshow or another effect on top.

I've not used Juicebox before, but you're the second person today to mention it. It does look slick.

Doesn't this give me a page full of thumbnails? These need to look nice, with small thumbnails along the side or bottom, but a large picture in the main area. Most of the Drupal galleries I've seen are just pages of thumbnails. I'll go through the tutorial and see what happens.

Juicebox twice in one day? Perhaps it's time for a Juicebox Drupal plugin tutorial? Juicebox states on their website that it wasn't created for Drupal and to go to Drupal for support with the integration.

Thanks, Susanne

Hi Susanne

OK, I see your point. It's easy to create a photo gallery with Views, but not easy to create a highly-professional one.

I'll do a Juicebox tutorial for you early next week.

Wow! That would be great! I'll download JuiceBox in the meantime and learn how to use it as a standalone.

Thank you, Susanne

That's great to hear. Even though it's easy, I'll still do the tutorial :)

I just played around with the desktop, not in Drupal. And alas, it appears I'll still have to put every single image into a content type. I found one tutorial on using the Drupal plugin, but I bet yours will be easier to understand. THANKS!

Sure thing. Can you let me know if any parts of the module are confusing after this?

Well I couldn't be more thrilled with your tutorial! I used Version #1 and as far as I'm concerned, it's perfect!

Thank you so much, Susanne

Hi,

I've made my first Juicebox Gallery, and have sent you a screen shot. It's a simple node, not a view. Is there a way to make the background on all of the gallery nodes black? (see the attached). The actual gallery background is black but it has a white border around it. The white border needs to be changed to black.
I've been googling for awhile and haven't been able to figure this out.

Hi Zusamna

Yes that is possible, although it might be easier to make the gallery background white to match your site. That would also solve the border problem.

Would that be a good alternative?

If not, could you post a link to your gallery?

Just to rewind - in what way is Juicebox better than Views? Here is a screenshot of Juicebox with the corresponding thumbnail highlighted to match the main image - can Views not do this?

Hi, I believe that the Drupal Gallery looks like a page full of thumbnails and that isn't what I wanted. Juicebox is easy to use and creates a beautiful gallery.

I've attached an image of what I think the Drupal Gallery looks like. You would click on a thumbnail to see the full sized image.

Zusamna, thanks for the great answer - I agree.

Juc2, I'd add that Juicebox is easier, but somewhat limited. Views requires more configuration and design skills, but it is more flexible.

I am trying juicebox with Views - is there any option to make the images rotate automatically as opposed to manual clicking or is it not meant to do that?

Thanks...

Juicebox Pro has all kinds of options, and I'd like to know how to configure them in Drupal too.

Hi Zusamna,

Which specific features are you looking for? Worth to check www.juicebox.net/tour/ to see what can offer the pro version, however some coding skills can be required.

Kind regards,
Valentín

I'm good for the moment, I just didn't think there were that many options in the Drupal Version. I'll wait until I know what I want and come back with a specific request.

Hi Juc2,

Autoplay is a pro feature: www.juicebox.net/support/config_options/#autoplay-options

If you have Juicebox Pro, try this in the view settings:
autoPlayOnLoad="TRUE"

Valentín

Thank you! That's perfect.

Since the Juicebox Module needs to have Juicebox Light installed on your computer, does it know that you've upgraded to Pro and give you more options?

I don't think Drupal detects the version you have. You need to have the pro version installed in order to those features take effect: www.juicebox.net/download/

I have Pro installed. It sounded in your answer that even with Pro, I have to configure with the auto play code instead of just selecting auto play as an option.

The pro version of Juicebox is ready to support the extra options defined in here , which doesn't happen with the lite version.
