I just updated the theme automatically. After that you can see that when I view the site from the WP Dashboard, the toolbar has changed. The distortions are circled. I submitted a question to the Bytes For All forum and the answer that I got was that this was a WordPress problem and not associated with the upgrading of the theme.

I did activate another theme - the toolbar continued to be strange. Then I activated Atahualpa again with no change in the toolbar.

Thanks for your help.

Hi bda,

Welcome to the forum. Glad you're here. Let's see if we can figure this out.

It's not really clear from the image what the distortion is, since we can't see what the original was. Is it the color of the links? or the font? Can you be more specific.

Just a guess at this point, but someone might have changed the CSS for those items in the previous template, and when you updated the CSS was overwritten with the new version.

We might be able to help you more if you could send us a link to the site. Also see if you can track down the CSS that controls these items by using Firebug. We have a tutorial on that if you don't know about it.

Give us some more details.

Cheers,
ed

The toolbar is the one that you see when you are logged in as the admin and then click View Page. So I can give you the URL of the site, but obviously can't send you the login and password (unless you have some other way to transmit this). The URL is www.nekhabitat.org.

Will try the Firebug route and see if I can find out more. Is there some way to find out what the CSS should be?

Thanks for your help. Am anxious to get this working as it is a site that I built for a our local Habitat for Humanity group and am anxious to teach them how to update the site themselves, but can't until this toolbar weirdness goes away.

Hi BDA

Yes, my feeling is the same as yours and Ed's. Somehow the new theme updated has chanced the white text in the admin bar to blue.

The most likely explanation is some broken or poorly tested CSS in the theme.

One alternative is to send a copy of the theme to me: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We can install the theme and see if we can recreate and fix the error.
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

I've attached a Word document with some screen captures that may (or may not help). I used Firebug and as far as I can see the CSS for the admin toolbar is the same whether you are in the Dashboard or in Visiting the Site.

I'd be glad to send a copy of the theme - just tell me how to do it. I really appreciate your helping out with this.

Hello bda,

If you could make a zipped copy of the theme folder and send it to steve attached to an email he will take a look at it.

I have tried this theme on a test site and don't seem to have the problem you are having. So it's definitely something specific to your site.

Cheers,
Ed

Do I just copy the theme folder to my computer and then zip it up? Let me know and I'll send it to you.

Also, is there a way to add another email to my account, in addition to the default one? I'd like to be able to see your emails either from home or work. Thanks.

Yes just copy the theme folder to your computer and zip it.

I'll ask Nick about the emails. Most people handle this with forwarding on their email accounts though. So I don't know if we have that available.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi bda,

I installed your copy of the template on my test site. As you can see from the secreenshots I am not having the same problem.

Most likely there is some inheritance problem with css for that menu item. YOu can also see from the screenshots that if I turn off the color that I get the blue links.

Try finding the color directive and marking it as !important;
examples:
color: black !important;
  background: white !important;

If that doesn't work, you'll need to find the other color rule that is interfering with this one and change that one.

Try this first.
Cheers,
Ed

First of all, as a user of several support forums, I need to publicly state that your folks are excellent! Your instructions are clear and understandable and you really don't let up until the problem is solved.

I followed Ed's instructions and used Firebug to poke around in the CSS file. I made a copy of the CSS file and edited it in Dreamweaver and kept uploading it until I fixed all the lines that needed changing. Every is fixed!

Thanks for all your help. I have one or two other issues with a new site I'm building for my "real job", but that will wait until tomorrow perhaps.

Keep up the good work!

HI bda,

Thanks for the thanks! We really feel good when we know we could really help.

Glad you could sort that out. You needed some good CSS skills and it looks like you were up to the task!

Cheers,
Ed
