hello all

i am having trouble getting wordpress to use the post name as the permalink option. when i first activated it under permalink settings, it seemed to work fine. but then it kinda stopped and now its back to numbers. heres an example: dev.theyogablog.com/104/
any idea why that is happening? i have tried resaving it multiple times to no avail. i can still go and manually type in the link, but that seems rather tedious.

any ideas my fellow CMS lovers?

Hi Matt,

Try clearing your WP cache and your browser cache and see i that makes a difference. You might want to get a plugin for clearing cache.

Let us know.

Sometimes with permalinks you have to set them back to the default settings, then change them back to the custom settings to get them all to refresh themselves. For some reason you have to "force" wordpress to renew the database.

If that doesn't work. I'll try to look deeper into it for you. The last time I had that problem that's how I fixed it.

I noticed some of the slugs weren't filled in. Could thay be why? I was under the impression it does that automatically.

Filling in the slug is optional. A slug word or two describing an entry, for use in permalinks (replaces the %posttitle% field therein), especially useful if titles tend to be long or they change frequently.

WordPress will use the post title unless there is a slug. So only add slugs where you want to customize the url to use something other than the title.

PS. Matt,

Be careful using post slugs for already published articles. You will probably get a 404 error if you add the slug to an older item.
