Hello,

I would like to move my wordpress site from its beta.mysite.com to just mysite.com - Do you have a tutorial on that. I tried to search on the site but couldnt find it. The only one I found is the backup tutorial from the video class but was wondering if there is a free option? like Akeeba for Joomla.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Greg,

First, make a backup of both sites.

After making a backup, does your host have cPanel? If so, you can use cPanel's File Manager to move it over easily (similar to the first half of this tutorial: www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/move-a-jo...t-directory-to-live/ )

You'll want to create a new subfolder and move the root files and folders into the new subfolder (excluding the subfolder that you're wanting to move to the root and the host's folders), then move your "beta" folder's contents to the root folder.

That's about it. Then check your permalinks.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Greg,

You're welcome!

No, it wouldn't. You can, however, make another test site by creating a new database for it and copying your current beta database into it. Then you can copy the files and change the configuration file to point to the new test database (so that the two aren't aliased).

Kind regards,
Nick

Im not sure if I fully understand your instructions:

You'll want to create a new subfolder and move the root files and folders into the new subfolder (excluding the subfolder that you're wanting to move to the root and the host's folders), then move your "beta" folder's contents to the root folder.

where to create a folder and move it to a root folder in the new address folder?

Hi Greg,

For example, your Wordpress site might be located at public_html/

Your beta site might be at public_html/beta

You'll have to create a folder called "oldsite123" at public_html/oldsite123 . Then move the contents of the public_html/ (excluding the "beta" folder that you're wanting to move to the root and the host's folders) to the public_html/oldsite123 folder. Then move the contents of the "beta" folder to the root.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick
