I have finished the beginner course and have just started the intermediate course. I am trying to set up wordpress to run on my laptop. In the set-up process, when I try to set up the Configuration file, I get the following message:


Sorry, but I can't write the wp-config.php file.

You can create the wp-config.php manually and paste the following text into it.

After you've done that, click "Run the install."




Did I do something wrong? How do I move forward?

You didn't do anything wrong. It may just be the way your server is set up or the way permissions are set on the directory.

Creating the file manually is perfectly acceptable. Do you have enough instructions to know how to do that?

What software are you using for localhost? For example, WAMP, MAMP, Uniserver, Xampp, etc. Also, are you using a Mac Windows operating system for your computer?

Either way, all you have to do is go to where you installed Wordpress. So the same folder that contains your wp-admin folder, wp-content folder, and wp-includes folder. Then, in there create a "wp-config.php" and paste your code into the file. You can use an editor to do that or depending on your laptop, right click and create a new file.

To answer your question, I am running Xampp on Mac OS 10.7.3.
