Attributes for downloadable products? 1 year 3 weeks ago #44400

Hi

Is it possible to add attributes to downloadable products? For example, I'd like to have 2 options for ebooks - one with Master resell rights at one price & another for ebooks without MRR for a lower price.

When I tried it out while adding a new product I clicked on 'variable product' & seemed to lose the options for virtual product. So I'm assuming I can't add attributes to virtual or downloadable products, but I thought I'd check?

Thanks

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

What e-commerce plugin are you using?

Kind regards,

Hi Nick,

I'm using Woocommerce. I just looking at the ostraining woocommerce tutorial again & the part on Downloadable products. I noticed just below that there is a part on cross sells/upsells. Would that be the better option if I can't add attributes?

Thanks

Hi Rachel,

It does appear that you can't do downloadable products as variable products, however you can add attributes. Look for the attributes in the "Product Data" area.

With that being said, you can't add a different price per variable, so your best bet is to use the sells/upsells or to group products.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi,

I thought I'd give grouping products a try, but for some reason I've been able to do it. I have set 2 of the products as grouped products. When I do that I lose the 'grouping' option on the 'product data' panel, so I'm just left with general/inventory/up-sell/attributes. The price etc has gone (as it said it would in your Woocommerce tutorial). I've then also set 2 attributes.

Without the 'grouping' option I can't set the group. I don't know how to create groups either. If I put it as a simple product I have the grouping option on the data panel, but on the drop down option for grouping I have no groups added. How can I create a new group? And if when I select a 'grouped product' I lose the grouping option on the data panel, how can I allocate it to a group?

No doubt, there's something I'm missing out, but I just can't figure out what it could be?

(I have tried the woothemes forum as well but they seem to be offline due to hacking)

Thanks

Hi Nick,

Thank you for offering to help. I've actually figured it out. I found the Woothemes user guide & then realized (as I think you also mentioned in your tuturial) that I have to set up a parent product first that doesn't actually hold the product itself, & then create the products as children separately. Now I understand how it works though, but I hadn't understood that detail properly before.

As it had been a couple of days I thought maybe you hadn't seen my message & so just left it. I should have concluded it though & let you know, so sorry about that.

Thanks just the same!

Rachel
