Do you have or plan to have a front end module or menu type that will allow the use of your videos from the front end of websites, of course with your branding and sales pitch?

Hi wwhite,

Good question!

Yes, we've considered it and will be discussing the possibility at an upcoming meeting. There's only one drawback that we're trying to figure out a solution to. Stay tuned to our newsletter and we'll announce it on there if and when we create a front-end version.

By the way, we're actually trying to get rid of branding to allow developers to customize it for their projects and clients.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,
Nick

In my quick reading of the info on the Toolbar, I was very excited because I thought it was created to allow front-end access for my authors, editors & publishers. I've made my own using Jing or SnagIt, but you folks are pros!

This is great for my noob admin types, and would really love to see the tutorials available to the front-end. Even if they are narrowed to the videos relevant to their needs.

I noticed you're working on allowing us to add our own to the queue. Awesome!

I love your work & am indeed excited to see that you're working to create more access.

Thanks very much,
scubaJim

Thanks for the postive feedback Jim!

Front-end access is something we're thinking seriously about.

The layout is actually the easy part.

The slightly trickier part is choosing the videos to show. All the videos we do involve the admin area to some extent.

Let me ask you if I may ... what videos would you like to show to the authors, editors & publishers?

Given that we're thinking these through, I'm certain that allowing people to add their own videos will be next on our list and front-end access will be a little later.
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

Steve,
Thanks for asking. btw, I recommend the Step by Step book to new backend users.

As a way to both help others & ride the Joomla! learning curve, I have volunteered to help some churches in the area update their static websites. I promote an organizational structure that lets non-tech congregation members add to the site via the front-end and importantly spreads the responsibility for updating to individuals that are passionate about a particular area of ministry at their church.

I do a web writing session for the soon to be authors, editors & publishers and a session on front end access. As a way to give them access to a refresher without needing to contact me, I made a few screen capture videos. It's probably easier to show you what I'm interested in for them... take a look: gregoryproservices.com/index.php/training-videos

Were these for paying customers or if I had the time, I'd try to make them more polished. This is a different area than you have addressed, but might take little time to do a short series for front end users that your members work with.

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks indeed Jim

Here's what we might aim for in the next version then:

1) Frontend access to the videos
2) The ability for people to add their own videos

We might not plan to have any front-end specific videos for launch, but people can easily drop their own in.

Thanks, Steve.

I'd thought about creating a page of training videos with menu controlled access via ACL.

Having your icon available for them to gain access would be great.

Peace,
jim

Hi guys

Frontend access is now available in both the OSToolbar for Joomla and WordPress.

It's only beta right now but it's ready for testing. If you'd like a copy, email me via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Ok, finally was able to take a look at front end access. Again, thanks for the ability to pass through your excellent training to my clients. While I had made some myself, they don't have the polish of yours.

Not being a code writer... yet, I don't know if I'm asking a lot here:

Q1. Although not critical, it would be nice to be able to provide different video lists to different access levels.

Q2. Using Firefox, when I play a video from either back- or front- end and the video is over, it doesn't close & there isn't a 'Back to list' button. While not a problem for me, I just alt-(back arrow) or hit the tutorial menu tab in the front-end. Many of my front end users are relative novices. I can see their confusion now... Well, Jim, I relearned how to add an article, but I don't know how to get rid of the video.

Q3. Is the ability to add our own videos yet to come?

Thanks again,

scubaJim

Hi scubaJim,

1) Great suggestion!

2) Does the "Tutorial" button (top right) work for you? We intended that as being the way to go back to the main screen.

3) Yes it is.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi, Nick,

Sorry, forgot to note that the button does nothing while watching or at the end of a video.

Thanks Jim!

At this point, I'm not sure what the issue is. Could you provide more access to me so that I could check the version and settings?

Kind regards,
Nick

Ok, Nick,

Been traveling. You're now a Super

As the name implies it's just a site for customers to play with as they learn.

Thanks, Jim

Thanks Jim!

Looks like the plugin "Sticky toolbar - Offlajn.com"'s javascript is conflicting with OSToolbar. You should try using Admin Docker instead:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/adminis...min-navigation/10505

Or contact "Sticky toolbar - Offlajn.com"'s developers to get the bug fixed, as it appears to be an issue on their end rather than ours.

Kind regards,
Nick

Nick,
Thanks very much for digging in to it. At my level I wouldn't have gotten to that conclusion.

I'll uninstall, let Offlajn know & try Admin Docker.

Do you know of keyboard command extensions available for the Admin template?
Or, an auto-'apply' function that would save a draft in the background while one worked?

Thanks again,

Jim

Hi Jim,

You're welcome! Glad to be of help! :)

Would you open up each of the two new questions in separate forum topics please? Thanks in advance!
