Can you help me figure out what i have done 9wrong??). i have two websites i am taking care of. One is using Joomla 1.5; when I access the website, it comes up as www.sjthailand.org
I have a second web, using Joomla 2.5, but it always comes up with /index.php/en/ at the end. www.thesevenfountains.org//index.php/en/

can i get rid of the added part /index.php/en/

Thanks

thanks for pointing me to the 2 tutorials. But I still cannot get the urls to look user-friendly.

If I click all 4 as yes in the General Config,
then Ihave to rewrite the htaccess.txt file to .htaccess (I think that is the instruction?)

Then I backup my live site using Akeeba; but when I try to use the kickstart to put that backup on mylocal host, at the end of the installation process, it will not go to the home page - i get an error message that says

The requested URL /Seven Fountains/en/ was not found on this server.

Not sure if this is clear....?
(I also posted this question as "Akeeba Backup & Joomla 2.5" yesterday.)

Any advice/
Paul

Hi Paul

Check these two things also:

1) Do you have sh404SEF or another URL component installed? If so, check their settings.

2) Go to Extensions > Plugin Manager and make sure that you don't have any language plugins enabled. If you do, disable them.
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

Steve, thanks. Yes, I do have a language plug in, FaLang, because my site is in two languages (English & Thai). if I disable that, all the thai work disappears!

I have discovered this round-about (not terribly serious problem, just "aesthetics!)

On the live server, I can put in Joomla 2.5 all the options to YES (user friendly, apache, etc). Then it says Imust change the htaccess.txt to .htaccess, and I do this. The url then comes up as www.thesevenfountains.org/en (or if Thai homepage, www.thesevenfountains.org/th) I can live with this; but.....

before backing up (akeeba), I have to change the .htaccess back to htaccess.txt so that the kisckstart processd on the wampserver goes through ok.......

Does that make sense?

Thansk!
Paul

Wonderful, I'm glad that worked, Paul.

Yes, that problem does make sense. .htaccess can be an awkward file to work with. However, once Kickstart has finished, you can change htaccess.txt back to .htaccess again.
