TOPIC: Warning: Failed to move file!

Warning: Failed to move file! 1 year 2 months ago #65464

Everytime I try to upload or install anything in joomla I get
Warning: Failed to move file!

I was advise to tell the host provider of the error.

I have set the TMP folder to permission 777 as informed by someone of the net, but I still get
Failed to move file! when trying to upload files.

any advise on this would be beneficial.

Hi Frank,

this is almost always a hosting issue where the folders don't have the correct ownership/permissions on the folders.

1. Who is your host?
2. Unless you're familiar with this issue - I would strong suggest you talk to them - let them know you're using Joomla and ask them to check ownership of all the folders and set the permissions to 755 on all folders.

let us know

Hi Rod,

Thankyou for your prompt reply on this one. I went to one forum where I was told the same thing. To bring this up with the hosting company. I can run other joomla sites, but this was a newly installed site on the server

read below I did a lookup and it seems to be Domain Agents. I will try and get intouch with them
Also does this happen with newly installed jooomla sites on hosting sites? would I need to advise them to check everytime I load a new joomla site?

registrar_name: Domain Agent
registrar_address1: PO Box 302829
registrar_address2: North Harbour
registrar_city: Auckland
registrar_country: NZ (NEW ZEALAND)
registrar_phone: +64 9 551-8160
registrar_fax: +64 9 475-5976
registrar_email: @domainagent.co.nz

cheers

You're welcome, Frank! We're glad we could be of help!

Whether the site is newly installed or been there for a while, it doesn't make much of difference. Most newly installed sites will work right out of the box, however sometimes there are hosting issues and/or other issues that prevent the site from functioning as it should. Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick
