Hello, Is it possible to only show a few products in a category and then the user should have to register to see the full list of items in that category? In virtuemart.

Hi NeilA,

I have never tried that, but it seems it should be possible to put featured items in a module, but then restrict virtuemart to registered users.

You might be able to use {loadpostition} or {loadmodule} to place the featured products module into an article. Then when they click through they will be asked to register before they can view the store.

You can also make products visible by creating user groups in the Virtuemart admin. Then assigning access to the products by group.

Give us some more details on what you are trying to accomplish. We might be able to suggest something more specific.

Cheers,
Ed

Whoever thought of this site is a Genius. I am an experienced Joomla user/web developer and find this site very helpful and it is not outrageously priced for the valuable info I get here. Keep up the good work. Thanks. I will post details if I stumble with this.

Here is what I'm trying to accomplish: I a have a fabric store that has 6 different main categories. Each of these 6 main categories has 4 sub cats. Each oof the 4 sub-cats has about 40 products. I want to show only about 10 of the 40 prods and then if the customer wants to see more they have to register. This is to avoid my competitors seeing my full collection. I know they could use fake names etc. but this is how I want to do it if possible with VM2.0.8a amd J2.5. Thanks.

Hi
I am sure that Ed will have an answer to this tomorrow but in the mean time have you thought of using hikashop. The business edition certainly has groups but not only that it can be configured so that after a purchace the user automatically can be "promoted" to another group.

It is regarded as much easier to set up and use than VM but maybe you have a good reason to be wanting to use it.
Regards
Mark
