TOPIC: User Component Broken

User Component Broken 1 year 1 week ago #46011

Greetings,
I'm having problems with my 2.5.4 site: santafe hyphen webdesign dot com. (I've had hacking issues in the past so I'm not linking the url.)

The user component is broken completely, just as described here:
forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=625&t=714312
This solution is posted:
Found the solution - the user_notes table for some reason had a different prefix than the rest of the db - akeeba admin tools seems to have skipped all empty tables regardless wheter they are in use or not when changing the prefix of the tables.

I do have Akeeba Backup Pro, but I don't understand his solution. Can you help me understand what he's saying?

I just uninstalled RSFirewall, in case it's conflicting with Admin Tools or Akeeba Backup.

More information:
I can't reinstall Joomla using Admin Tools, whether I "write directly to files" or use ftp. I get errors titled:
JInstaller: :Install: Error SQL DB function failed with error number 1062
and
Files Update: SQL error file DB function failed with error number 1062

Also, when I attempt to open a component in the back end, I am bounced back to the log in window. When I log in again, it takes me to that component and I am able to work.

thanks,
Hope

Hi Hope,

Would it be a problem to go into phpMyAdmin and change the name of that table?

SQL statementE:

RENAME TABLE `wrongprefix_user_notes` TO `yourprefix_user_notes`;

Thank you Tessa! I need to learn how to do that. I have phpMyAdmin open and the database structure is open. Can you give me the steps from there?

Hope,

Click on your Database, then click on SQL. Let me know when you are there.

You can input the code I provided in the textbox where you can insert sql statements.

Make sure the table name matches what you current have, replace the prefixes.

Do I need to find the wrongly named table first so I can know the wrong prefix to replace?

RENAME TABLE `wrongprefix_user_notes` TO `yourprefix_user_notes`;

wrongprefix_user_notes would be your current user notes table name.

Then the yourprefix_user_notes would be the correct user notes table with your database prefix.

Side note: those are not apostrophes, it is tildas, located above your tab.

I'm sorry for my dumbness, Tessa. I know that the right prefix is J17_ but I don't know what the wrong prefix is.

I'm attaching some table names.

I don't see a user_notes table on that list. I thought from your first post that they told you to change the prefix of your user_notes table? =P

I know. I don't get it either.

Here's the error message that opens when I try to access the USER component:
Table 'MyUserName_jml03.j17_user_notes' doesn't exist SQL=SELECT n.user_id, COUNT(n.id) As note_count FROM j17_user_notes AS n WHERE n.user_id IN (71,66,70,69,72,74,73) AND n.state >= 0 GROUP BY n.user_id

I'm wondering if the problem I'm having is different than the one I linked to above. IF so, I'm sorry if I led you down the wrong path.

Hi Hope, do you have more than one database or something? Where did you "find the solution" at?

I googled the error message and found the link in my first post.

There is only one database.

Gosh. I should have made it clear that the link I submitted in my first post was for someone else's problem and someone else's solution. IT seemed a perfect match with my problem until I looked at the table names and didn't find ANY user_notes table at all.

It looks like this is closer to my problem

Eureka!
If I had interpreted my problem correctly, Tessa, you would have pointed me in this direction, I'm sure.

I went to the Database tab in the Extension Manager and FIXED the database (which did show a missing user_notes table, among other things.

Wow. I didn't know about that tab.

I can get into my USER component again. Phew.

I'll check on the other problems now and see if they're all fixed. Crossing my fingers.

Thanks so much for wading through my murky information and giving me personalized attention, Tessa. I so appreciate you all.
Hope

Hello Hope,

"Fixing" the database would have been the last resort if there was no user_notes table, haha. :-)

I'm glad you were able to figure that out! :-D
