Hi all,

This probably a recurring question for you, but I could not find out any answers yet.

I am looking for stratagies that will allow me to continue the development of a Joomla 2.5 site adding more functionalities (modules, menus, but NO CONTENT), while at the same time my customer is using the site in a different server adding content. So what I need is to migrate everything but content. How can this be done?

Best Regards
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

You can use the following tutorial to copy the site from server to server:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-mo...ocal-to-live-server/

Akeeba Backup, which is used in the tutorial, also has an option to exclude certain tables (thus the content), however I'd recommend moving the whole site and then deleting the content if you don't want it.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

That means that Akeeba Bck can move a whole site and preserve the content of the destination site, while overwriting all the rest?

Pedro

Hi Pedro,

Yes, if done correctly. Please just make sure to make a backup of all your sites before you begin (just in case).

Kind regards,
Nick

Right... but that is what I am looking for. How to do it right. I have already used AB to move the entire site from DEV to PROD. Now i want to know how to migrate all but content (and menus of course). This should be a common task for seasoned developer I guess...

Regards
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

You can use the exclude tables feature of Akeeba Backup. That's really all that's needed. Follow the rest of the tutorial as usual.

The following reading might interest you and give you a good context as well:

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Nick
