Hi,

I am attempting to install the zipped example template folder that I created from the files after watching and re-watching the template tutorial index.php videos.

While in the Extension Manager: Install pane I receive this error message and do not know how to fix it:
Failed loading XML file
/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/design/tmp/install_4f948da65100c/template1_trial/templateDetails.xml
XML: Premature end of data in tag install line 3
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file


I copied, word for word, the top of my XML file from the tutorial videos and yet can't figure out how to correct this. Here is the code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE install PUBLIC "-//Joomla! 2.5//DTD template 1.0//EN" "www.joomla.org/xml/dtd/1.6/template-install.dtd">
<install version="1.6" type="template" client="site">

Has anyone else had trouble with uploading the example templates as seen in the tutorials?

When I try to install it through the Extension Manager it is now giving me this error message:
"XML: Premature end of data in tag extension line 3" when I changed the word install to extension. Is it because between the version tags I have 2.5 listed?


Edit:
I went on Joomla's website and it showed a closing </extension> tag at the bottom of the XML file. I added it to my file, and while it fixed the other error message I now see this:

JInstaller: :Install: File does not exist /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/design/tmp/install_4f95c04f21c86/template1_trial/params.ini

What I don't understand is that I created a params.ini file as directed by the tutorial instructor (it is blank) -- yet it is telling me it does not exist.

Hi Eric,

Yes, include the closing tag:
</extension>

Also, be sure to have the template name (in the templateDetails.xml) the same as the folder name.

The params.ini file that you created is actually params.ini.doc because it was created as a Microsoft Word file. Try using a text editor such as notepad++ instead to create it as params.ini:
notepad-plus-plus.org/

That will help to create regular files and not have to worry about additional formatting.

It turns out the params.ini file was in fact saved as params.ini.rtf. Thanks for that tip. I just uploaded the template file successfully.

I set it as the main template, and nothing is formatted, so I am hoping the tutorial videos I haven't watched will help me figure out why. (I did set each module to it's own position, say "top1" for example, but nothing formatted itself).
