I used JUpgrade to migrate my Joomla 1.5 to 2.5. I moved all of the 1.5 files to a folder and the JUpgrade files into my public html. What did I do wrong?

Thanks!

Hi Cheryl,

What is the error?

Did you set your error reporting to maximum to see any PHP errors?

Is there any database errors?

What other steps did you take?
Warm Regards,

Tessa,

I'm receiving a 404 error when trying to access the site and I am unable to log into the Admin panel.
Although I had no problems with the migration of a previous site, I did with this one and Nick helped me. We uploaded the J2.5 package and unzipped it via cPanel.

Cheryl,

Try double checking the configuration.php file and make sure every line is accurate.

I noticed in cPanel that my .htaccess file says 0KB and my access.txt has 3.04KB. Does that matter at all?

Can you copy your text in htaccess.txt into your .htaccess file if it is empty?

Yes, are you able to view your error report with your hosting server? You should be able to contact them and it will give you a report of why you are receiving the internal server errors. If you are on localhost you should be able to find it in your files.

This is Rochen's response:

The error is being generated by the script you are running.

Any assistance on this anyone?

1.Check your configuration.php file, use this tutorial to make sure it's correct for this server and this data base. If the permissions on it were set to 444 you might not have actually replaced the old one with the new one.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/guided-to...nfigurationphp-file/
2. Makes sure your htaccess.txt file has been renamed to .htaccess
3. Make sure there are no other htaccess files in subdirectories.

Did the jupgrade folder work when you tried to access it and it was still in that folder?

Can we get a link? Is the original upgrade still in jupgrade? did you move it or did you copy it?

Hi Ed,

I moved it completely.

This morning, I went into cPanel and moved my J1.5 files back and I can now access my site, but I am receiving 404 errors on my articles. How can I fix this?

Here's the site: wjyouthpower.com/

Thanks!

Turn off SEF urls and URL rewrite in the global configuration and see if you can view the pages.

Temporarily rename your htaccess file so it's not being used. Let us know the result.

Either put back the name of your htaccess file or if that breaks things, Get a new htaccess file from another intallation and replace the old one.

Then go through the process of turning on your SEF urls again.

Should be back to normal after that.

It seems that there are 2 .htaccess files: one that I renamed and another one. How should I proceed.

You can't have two files with the same name in the same directory. Keep the one that's named .htaccess If it's named anything differently it's not being used anyway so you don't have do anything, or you can safely delete it.

Ed,

My htaccess file is empty. Shouldn't there be something in there?

Also, I received the same error message when accessing my articles when I changed the SER URLs function. When you suggested I get a new htaccess file from another intallation and replace the old one, did you mean that I should download a J1.5 installation and just upload the htaccess file?.

Yes. Get the htaccess.txt file and upload it to this installation. Then rename it to .htaccess. Then it won't be empty and will have all the basic access rules.

Ed,

Thank worked...thanks! Do you think it's a good idea for me to delete that J2.5 installation and start over again using JUpgrade? What are my chances of running into that same problem again?

Glad we figured that one out!

Yes I would try jupgrade again. When you set the parameters for Jupgrade you can choose to rename the folder, so you can put the upgrade into a new one and not need to delete anything. Of course you'll use up some diskspace, but you'll have several test sites. So deleting it is optional.

Keep a backup. I always backup the entire site, and a separate database backup. That way I can always rebuild a site if i have to. Be sure you run install, update, database and warnings on the jupgrade version and all is working perfectly there.

You should be able to copy the files from the Jupgrade folder instead of move them so we can go back to them if we have to. Don't delete them until you have the main site working.

Probably this was the problem with the first attempt as well. If you move it and cant' access it, what we just did this is the same fix I would have tried for that.
