Has anyone discovered a good (as in "easy") way to transfer K2 content from a Joomla! 1.5 to a 2.5 site?

Hi Marc,

If you use jUpgrade to upgrade your site, it automatically transfers over the k2 content as well. Check out the following documentation:
getk2.org/documentation/videos/item/152-...la-17-using-jupgrade

Otherwise, you can use the following two extensions:
1)DM K2 XML Exporter:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extensi.../k2-extensions/14819
2)Import for K2:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extensi.../k2-extensions/12408

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

Thanks Nick,

I should have specified that I've looked into these after realizing SP Upgrade does not transfer K2.

"jUpgrade" is particularly buggy. A look at their forum shows endless challenges, with upgrades simply not working, or getting stuck along the way, content not getting transferred at all and seemingly an endless list of unanswered questions from users whose jUpgrade failed in one way or another. And unfortunately there's zero response from the developers on these questions.

"Import for K2" seems extremely complicated requiring numerous tweaks and changes to CSV files.

"DM K2 XML Exporter" looks promising, however they show how to export but I don't see any explanation as to how to import to the new site. Would you mind giving an explanation as to how this could be used for a rebuilt site?

Thanks in advance.

You could try looking at the importers in this list

extensions.joomla.org/search?q=import+articles

Also since Jupgrade is free, and doing an upgrade with Jupgrade doesn't disturb your original site at all, why don't you try the Jupgrade route. It might be easier than you think. I've upgraded K2 sites with it and did not encounter any problems.

Anyway, that's my two cents:)
Cheers,
Ed

Just to follow up for anyone following this post:

As Nick suggested; "2)Import for K2:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extensi.../k2-extensions/12408" ... worked like a charm.

The documentation on the website made me think it would be a challenge to transfer fairly complicated K2 content from a Joomla 1.5 site to 2.5, but in reality it was a very easy and intuitive tool to use. Worked great!

Marc,

As a user of k2 since it was first released, I am curious to why you choose to use the Core Joomla Content in place of K2; was there a specific reason?

Thanks,
Chaim

Chaim,

Not sure where you got that idea. It was all K2 - both the export and import. No core J! content.

The only change was going from J! 1.5 to a new J! 2.5 site.

Sorry, I got confused with all the exporting extensions (that is what happens when you read a post ;ate at night with little sleep ;).

I personally dumped my K2 tables using phpmyadmin and re-imported it (make sure that your user IDs are the same or else you will need to modify the SQL dump to reflect the correct userID).

Good luck with your site,
chaim :)
