Can I use the positions of a template without using the entire template for my website?

Hi Phitraining,

When you say positions, do you mean the layout of your template or the module positions?

Have you taken our CSS courses yet? It will help a lot editing your template to change your positions.

BTW welcome to OSTraining and we are glad you are here! :-)
Warm Regards,

We have this extention (ohanah), that we have been trying to put together the past few weeks. Our template layout has about 6 different positions(it's a template created by an outside company specifically for our company) I guess I mean the module positions. We are thinking about using the module positions of a different template but we don't want to ruin the background template that we have now. So could we use the module positions of another template and still use the template that was designed for us?

I'm sorry if this was confusing.

I will take a look at the CSS courses I am still chugging through the beginner courses of joomla 2.5

Hi phitraining,

Yes this is totally possible. You can add (or remove) positions from any template. You just need to define them in the templateDetails.xml file and then put them into the index.php file. Sounds complicated, but the Joomla template course will show you in detail.

When you get to the point where you need to do that, send us your questions and we'll guide you through it

Cheers,
Ed
