I was reading your blog on smart search.

I enabled it a while ago, but it never showed up in the components dropdown menu. See attached pic.

What can I do next?

Hi Naomi,

What specific Joomla version are you using?

Try going to Extensions >> Extension manager >> discover >> install.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Naomi,

OK, try reinstalling (not upgrading) to 2.5.4 using the following tutorial (the tutorial applies for 2.5 as well):
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-up...min-tools-extension/

That should hopefully fix things for you.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hello Nick,

I did upgrade to 2.5.4, but nothing changed.

Today I looked in my warnings in my extension manager. See attached.

I tried to install a template and although it installed successfully, and the required plugin was installed and enabled, the template didn't show up in the template queue.

I thought it was a similar issue.

Does this look like the cause. If so, how do I make it work properly?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Naomi,

Did you upgrade to 2.5.4 or reinstall 2.5.4?

That doesn't appear to be a similar issue, unfortunately.

Kind regards,
Nick

It was 2.5.4, it keeps going back to 2.5.3. And then I reinstall 2.5.4.
It usually drops back to 2.5.3 when I install extensions.

Are you familiar with this phenomenon?

So, how do I get smart search to function?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Naomi,

If you are having a problem with the tmp folder, here is how you can check it and fix it. www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/jfoldercreate/

It looks as though you have Front Page extensions installed on this account. Is there a reason why you need the Front Page Extensions.

The problem with reverting has always been problem if you try to run a regular website with Front Page extensions involved.

Do you have Front Page extensions activated? Can you turn them off?

Let us know,
Ed

That is really great. I had frontpage installed. I uninstalled it.

I went through the tutorial and checked everything, but the ownership. I didn't see it listed anywhere... see attached.

Now that that's taken care of how do I get smart search to appear?

Also, why does Joomla want me to update to 2.5.3 when I'm at 2.5.4? please see attached.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Naomi,

The tmp folder you need should be located in public_html/tmp The one that shows in your screenshot is a level higher than that.

Try adding Admin Tools from Akeeba and having it fix your permissions.
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/admin-too...nd-file-permissions/

Also do your upgrade using akeeb admin tools. and if it doesn't change then use it to reinstall joomla. You'll see the button for reinstalling when you go through ugrade.

Also some things you should do just to make sure.
1. Go to Extension Manager > Discover
2. Clear Cache
3. Look for upgrades and install if needed

Go to Extensions > Extenion Manager > Database
I there are any data base errors click Fix.

Go to Site > Clear Cache and clear cache before you check your site.
Clear the cache from your browser as well.

See if that clears things up and let us know.

Cheers,
Ed

Hello Ed,

When I checked the database errors, I found this:

Database schema version (1.7.3-2011-11-10) does not match CMS version (2.5.4).
Table 'xlefz_languages' does not have column 'access'. (From file 2.5.4-2012-03-19.sql.)

How do I fix these errors?

Hi Naomi,
  • Use the the Joomla 2.5.4 package to overwrite the folders/files on the server.
  • Upload all except the /installation folder.
  • Go to admin >>> extenstion manager >>> database tab ... 'Fix'
  • Download the 2.5.3 to 2.5.4 update package and install via the extension manager install.(like an extension).
  • Go to admin >>> extenstion manager >>> database tab ... 'Fix'(again).

Doing that in that order should sort things out.

Please be sure to make a back up of your site before making any changes.
Warm Regards,

Tessa Mero
