I have transferred hosting for one of my sites from GoDaddy to Hostgator and everything has gone smoothly except for the old database importing. When trying to import, I keep receiving this error message:

#1044 - Access denied for user 'mynewdatabase'@'localhost' to database 'myolddatabase'

I've updated my config.php file and am still receiving this error. Any idea what could be wrong?

Hi Cheryl,

Please contact Hostgator's support and they should be able to resolve the issue for you in a few minutes, as it's on the server side.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Just got through with them and they said that they haven't noticed any issues from the server side. Should I call and speak with someone else?

Hi Cheryl,

It's when you're trying to import the .sql file into phpMyAdmin that you're getting the error, correct? If so, yes, you need to speak to someone else more knowledge there.

Kind regards,
Nick

Just got off the phone with a HG tech and was told that there was a curating problem within the SQL zip file. They suggested unzipping the file and cutting and pasting the files into myphp admin a few at a time. I'm going to give it a try.

Nick,

When I unzipped that sql file, the only thing that came up was an Unix Executable File. How do I access the actual files?

Hi Cheryl,

There are no files within. The SQL file is just a bunch of data and information within a single text file formatted as SQL. Open it up with a text editor.

Nick

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks!

Try making a copy of the file then deleting everything above line 29, then import it into phpMyAdmin the regular way. It should work for you. If not, open the file (the copy, not the original) and copy everything then paste it into phpMyAdmin's import code feature.

Kind regards,
Nick

OK. Could you please tell me what line 29 begins with? Not sure if I should be counting the spaces or not.

Hi Cheryl,

Yes, count spaces and use a text editor that counts everything for you. Line 29 is a space. It's right before: "CREATE TABLE..."

Nick,

I received this message when I tried that. What does it mean?

Error

SQL query:

CREATE TABLE `joba_acesef_bookmarks_backup` (
`id` int( 12 ) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT ,
`name` varchar( 255 ) NOT NULL default '',
`html` text NOT NULL ,
`btype` varchar( 20 ) NOT NULL default '',
`placeholder` varchar( 150 ) NOT NULL default '',
`published` tinyint( 1 ) unsigned NOT NULL default '1',
PRIMARY KEY ( `id` )
) ENGINE = MYISAM DEFAULT CHARSET = utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT =72;

Nick,

I'm using Mac's Text Editor application and there aren't any line counters. Can you recommend another editing app? Thanks.

Hi Cheryl,

How's it going? Were you able to get things sorted?

Basically, the table already exists. So if you're wanting to start from scratch, you have undo what you already did by deleting the table (please make sure you make backups just in case).

Nick

phpMyAdmin. Check to see what you have in there.
