Hi Nick,

I also wanted to speed up the site so thank you for the tutorial. but I was asking about optimizing the site for search engines. I know adding meta data, and description works but is there more to it. Like should I use certain number of words, in certain order, how many words, should the meta data be for the site or every page, things like that.

Thanks,
Shirin

One of the essential items is a site map, and manually registering the sitemap with Googe, Bing and Yahoo. That's something that is essential and hopefully you've done that already.

When you register for the sitemap there are several tools for analysis.

Start using Google's Webmaster tools. The tools will help you and they have some online tutorials that should help. And they should answer a lot of our questions as well.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi,

Google webmaster tools suggests using microdata and schema.org in the site. I was wondering where in the template I should be putting this code, if I do this manually? Since this code will be for different articles and information in the site.
Is there an extension for this? I saw one mentioned on the schema.org site but it is outdated.

Any help on this?

Thanks,
Shirin

Hi Shirin,

What exact code do you have to input? I can help guide you depending on what type of code it is.
Warm Regards,

Hello Shirin,

You can find instructions on adding the markup you need to your pages in the schema.org getting started guide.

schema.org/docs/gs.html

Using schema.org and micordata involves adding some special arguments to your tags like this.

<div itemscope>

or

<div itemscope itemtype="schema.org/Movie">

So you would open your article in code view and add this. I don't know if there is an extension that would make this easier. We'll need to do a little more research, or maybe someone else here has more experience than I do.

I haven't really used this myself yet, so the best authority would be the schema.org documentation and blog.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi Shirin,

I'm not aware of an extension either. Editing the articles manually would be your best bet. Using JCE ( www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/jce/ ) for your WYSIWYG editor would be an easy way to transition from the editor to the HTML of the article.

Kind regards,
Nick

yes I have read the schema.org site guidelines, but I was not sure about adding it where, since joomla is database driven.

I go to the code all the time to fix little things, but didn't occur to me that I could just put the microdata there.

sometimes simple things are right in front of us and we do not see it.

Thank you so much for showing the light...thank you

Shirin
