TOPIC: Should template appear blank?

Should template appear blank? 1 year 3 weeks ago #44548

Hello,

I have had other template questions in regards to the videos and files not working, and I am betting this won't be the last.

A few days ago I had successfully uploaded my template file. However, setting it as the default template, and then setting a few sample modules to it resulted in a blank white page with the text running down it, almost like there was no CSS attached. However, that doesn't make sense because I included the CSS files in the zipped files when I created the template to upload. Should the template appear blank once I have assigned the modules to it? I can see no colors, no boxes, no areas where the divs should be at -- and I just checked in Dreamweaver and I see the code in the index.php file is there as it should be.

The videos don't touch on this, so I am guessing this isn't a widespread problem. For the last few hours I have had the video "The Header Module" minimized while I went in search of a solution. I feel like I am making little to no progress, especially with all these pitfalls I am running into.

Regards,
Eric

Hi WriterDesigner,

Is your styles not possibly being extracted in your site?

Does it show until you create modules? Or it never shows at all?

Have you tried to uninstall your template, zip it, then install using the extension method?

Hello,

It never shows at all. I have uninstalled the template once, re-zipped it, and reinstalled it again without it fixing anything.

How do I know if my styles aren't being extracted for my site? As I mentioned in my initial post, it looks much like a page without any CSS formatting once-so-ever. Even when I set my modules to the positions, nothing changes (visual, at least). Just a white page with text running down it.

Thanks,
Eric

Are you able to provide a link to your site?

What do you see in firebug? Do you see a css file in the header and able to open it?

I am using MAMP to host the server locally on my mac, or I'd be able to provide a link to the site. I haven't tried looking at it in Firebug yet. I will do that now.

Here is all that it is showing when I turn on Firebug with the template activated on the home page in the head tags:

<link type="text/css" href="/design/templates/template1_trial../css/templates.css" rel="stylesheet">
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>404 Not Found</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Not Found</h1>
<p>The requested URL /design/templates/template1_trial../css/templates.css was not found on this server.</p>
</body></html>
</link>

However, it does not let me click on or access the CSS files.

Tessa,

I was messing around with the code linking the css file and decided to remove the ... before the / and it worked! Not even sure why the .../ was in there. Wanted to let you know so you were not combing your brain for the solution.

Regards,
Eric

Hi WriterDesigner,

I'm glad you got it figured out. I had a huge feeling there was a problem with the css file in the header. I've done this countless times, and I'll probably do it again. It is the simple things that get all of us! :-)
