We have multiple users set up to access authenticated space in the frontend. In IE when a user navigates to the public space and then back into the authenticated space, Joomla asks them to login in again due to inactivity. When they try to they are asked to login again and again without gaining access unless they close their browser and login again. We have tried this on different versions of IE but no luck.

If they select "remember me" they are able to do this successfully however then they are not logged out after inactivity.

The site is set up not to cache.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First you should update your Joomla 1.5.23 to Joomla 1.5.26, an important security update.

Also, does this ONLY happen in IE? What happens in Chrome and Firefox when you go to a specific page that you have access to after logging in, then going to another non authenticated page, then trying to access that page again?

We recommend upgrading immediately because of a new major security issue that was found in all 1.5 versions prior to 1.5.26 and was fixed in 1.5.26.

Could you please explain what you mean by "authenticated space"? Do you mean that they log in through https encryption? If so, the Yireo SSL Redirection plugin should resolve the issue for you. Here's our tutorial on it:
