Hi,

Situation: live site (1.5.26) where I use sh404SEF with many custom redirects and aliasses. Copy of my live site on my local pc. Local site just migrated to 2.5.

1. Is there a way that I can copy all my redirects, aliasses and page titles from my 'old' sh404SEF extension to the 'new' 2.5 sh404SEF?
2. I understood that sh404SEF is working not so well locally. So probably the best is to do it after I put my live site to 2.5?
3. Any other things I should think about concerning migrating and the use of sh404SEF?

Regards, Maurice

Hi Maurice,

1) There is no migration for sh404sef, unfortunately. You just have to install the latest version on the 2.5 site, reconfigure, and allow the links to be created.

2) Yes, that's correct. You could do it in a subfolder of your live site to get it working before you make it live.

3) Not that I can think of :)

Hope this helps! :)

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks.
I have moved my testwebsite now from local to live server. Next step is I will install and configuer sh404SEF again from scratch.
There is one thing though, that is not going well at my testsite now and I wonder if sh404SEF will solve this or that I first should solve this problem and then install sh404SEF.
Situation: in 1.5 I had some links to articles of wich the menu was not published (in eg the main menu) and still they worked well.
Now in 2.5 these link do not work anymore. Only when I publish the links in the main menu (wich I do not want), the link works.
1.5 site: www.sitesuccess.nl/uw-website/voorbeelden-van-layout-en-design and then try eg the link to 'lifestyle'.
2.5 site (the testsite):
http://sitesuccess.nl/test/index.php/uw-website/voorbeelden-van-layout-en-design
and try the same link.

What is your idea about this?

Regards, Maurice

Hi Maurice,

You're welcome!

It's likely due to sh404SEF not being installed. That's the way Joomla works by default.

By the way, if you don't have any SEF extensions, you can use a hidden menu instead :) Check out the following tutorial for an example:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-li...r-using-hidden-menu/

Hi Nick,

Now I have installed sh404SEF, all the links work fine.
Still one thing about the urls of my testsite. Homepage should be
http://www.sitesuccess.nl/test
. Instead, sh404SEF generates
http://www.sitesuccess.nl/test/nl
. I redirected that to
http://www.sitesuccess.nl/test/
, but the thing is, that when I generate a xml-map (using Xmap), it still gives
http://www.sitesuccess.nl/test/nl
(so again with the nl).
Any idea how I can get rid of this /nl permanently?

Hi Maurice,

Sorry to jump in, but you are able to rewrite your Joomla Xmap URL's.

Check this link out:

Hi Tessa,

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!
For now I would rather solve it sh404SEF-wise. How can I do that?

Hi Maurice,

Try purging that URL from sh404SEF. Hopefully that will reset things.

Nick

Hi Nick,

No, that does not help. Although this /nl is redirected to the
sitesucces.nl/test
and I purged several times.
This url with the /nl at the end is generated when I click on home in my main menu. No idea why this /nl is added then. Do you have an idea? And/or other solutions?

Regards, Maurice

Hi Maurice,

Go to sh404sef >> URL Manager (tab) >> Home Page Meta (button in the top right) >> Aliases >> you'll see the "nl" is set up as one of the aliases, get rid of it and save.

Then in URL Manager find and delete:
nl/ index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=52&id=7&lang=nl&view=article

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

When I do so, the nl/ URL keeps on coming 'back'. Is there still another way to get rid of this URL permanently?
What I find strange, is that this URL never was generated in my 1.5 website, but popped up after migrating to 2.5.

Regards, Maurice

@Maurice
In that case, it sounds like it's a bug. Try contacting sh404SEF's developers and report the issue to them.

@Hugh
Glad you're enjoying the discussion! It's a good way to learn.

Hi all,

It appeared not to be a bug, but has to do something with the language.
To solve this problem with the /nl you need to go to Extensions > Language manager > Content and add (in my case living in the Netherlands) the language Dutch. That's all.
Now my sitemap is completely correct too!
