Hi,
Our hosting company has a control panel where the php scripting settings can be changed. I have been told by them that I have to set the memory usage setting myself to optimize the site. I am trying to do this because some times the site loads really slow.
I don't know how much memory a script should use and how much should the total memory allocation should be. Help please.

Thanks,
Shirin

Hi Shirin

These two things are (in nearly all cases) unconnected. Your available memory will only rarely affect site speed.

The main reason for doing this is to make sure the more powerful scripts on your site have enough memory to run.

One connection ... if you have powerful scripts and they run out of memory, that's a sign that they could slow your site down. However, memory is simply an indicator of slowness, not the cause.

There's absolutely nothing there that will be causing your site to go slow.

That leads to me to believe that is your hosting company that is running slow. Who are you hosted with?

Fat cow. I asked them multiple times but they keep saying it is not us, it is Joomla and I should optimize the site.

Very simply, they are wrong.

Your site here is rated as above average ( developers.google.com/pagespeed/#url=htt...inic_2F&mobile=false ) and you're really using just a simple stock Joomla install.

It's a little old but this post is relevant:

Fairly, but I've certainly seen worse.

To be honest, your best best is to try a couple of external tools such as:

developers.google.com/pagespeed/
www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/
www.iwebtool.com/speed_test

Sometimes the eye can be deceiving ...
