You need to upload the backup, then upload Akeeba Quick Start and use Akeeba Quick start to uncompress the file.

If you still have access to the original site, it's good to make a separate backup profile and backup just the data base, or use phpmyadmin to export the original database and use it to restore the databbase using phpmyadim on the new site.
Akeeba can be confusing when going between servers. They have frequent updates. You might want to check with them as well in case this is cause by a known issue and they have a ready answer. Here's the link to their restore forum
