Hi

I have a 2.5 site which I need to change to a new owner and a new domain name.

Whats the best way to replicate the site to a new host and domain.

I tried to use an Akeeba backup but the links don't work properly.

Your help is much appreciated.

Pete

If your original 2.5 site was installed correctly, the only things you should need to do is

1. copy everything from the main joomla directory on the old server to the new one.
2. Create a database for the new site and import the data.
3. connect the site to the data base in the configuration.php file.

These tutorials might help.

If you have some problems, just ask more questions.

Cheers,
Ed

Do you know how I can make the Akeeba Backup File work on another server?

How does this method handle the change of the Domain Name in the URLs?

You need to upload the backup, then upload Akeeba Quick Start and use Akeeba Quick start to uncompress the file. www.akeebabackup.com/home/news/56-releas...kickstart-3-5-1.html

Following the prompts should restore it, but sometimes you have problems with the data base connection. Read their documentation.

If you still have access to the original site, it's good to make a separate backup profile and backup just the data base, or use phpmyadmin to export the original database and use it to restore the databbase using phpmyadim on the new site.

Akeeba can be confusing when going between servers. They have frequent updates. You might want to check with them as well in case this is cause by a known issue and they have a ready answer. Here's the link to their restore forum www.akeebabackup.com/support/site-restoration.html

hi i used akeeba.. but the file was to big to upload via ftp.. my host was limited to 200mb. so i used akeeba extract to extract the file created and uploaded the file via ftp.

when everything is uploaded you will be asked to do some installation..it is very easy just follow the steps suggested by akeeba.

Hotbullet, thank you for providing this information.

Pete, the information Ed suggests is definitely helpful. Remember, the restore process might look complicated but it is actually really simple and a smooth process. :-D
