Modules with "lock"? 1 year 3 weeks ago #47191

Hi I am seeing some of my modules with a paddlock on the Modules Manager page. It doesn't appear to stop me from making changes. What is indicating, how did it get there, and why?

Best,
Scott

Hi Scott,

It just means it was checked out by someone who was working on it. Go to Site > Maintenance > Global Check in and you can remove the lock.

It's for a situation with multiple admins, so you know someone else is working on it and you can't make changes at the same time.

It doesn't work very well.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi Scott,

You can also individually unlock items by clicking on the lock as a Super User.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Ed and Nick,

So the locks are probably because I have been working from multiple windows and/or computers, and as long as I (Super User) can always open and work on these modules, menus, etc. Should not be a problem I guess. I was concerned that the lock might be preventing me from making changes or saving. So I guess I could leave it as is.

ps: Ed I went to maintenance/globalcheck but did not see anywhere to remove locks.

Regards
Scott

Hi Scott,

That's correct. It's specifically from not using Joomla's "Close" button. So for example, if you exit out of the browser tab, the lock will still be in place.

That's correct, only other users will be prevented from editing. You can edit your own locked items.

Steps for Global Checkin:
1) Go to your admin area
2) Site
3) Maintenance
4) Global Check-in
5) Select all the items that you'd like to check-in. You can also use the "select all" checkmark to the left of "Database Table"
6) Click the "Check-in" button (top right).

Hope this helps! :)

Kind regards,
Nick
