TOPIC: Making a wiki with Joomla

Making a wiki with Joomla 11 months 6 days ago #48961

Somewhere, I watched a video showing how to make a 'wiki' with Joomla. Was it on this site? Or do any of you know where I might have seen this?

Thanks

HI Corky,

No you didn't see it here, but I have seen several articles on it. How you go about it depends on what you consider the parts to make a wiki. And what it is you want your wiki to do.

Joomla actually functions quite well as a wiki all by itself. If you need people to be able to contribute, membership groups with different permissions, comments and front end editing it will do quite nicely.

If you want to extend it with version control and file uploads, a couple of extra plugins would make it easy.

Or if you want a really full experience with calendars, meetings, contributed articles, blogs and more, then something like Jomsocial would be a good choice.

Let us know what you mean by a wiki and what you expect it to do and we can try to coach you through it and collaborate a bit.

Cheers,
Ed

Well, I'm trying to do a shopping cart for a friend's website and gave up on HikaShop. So I thought perhaps the wiki method might work as a way to manage an inventory.

What was the problem with Hika Shop? There are lots of carts available, and one of them will work for you. If there's something really special about what you're doing, you may need to hire a programmer for customization.

Before you pick a cart, you need to have the specifications in mind so you can be sure to choose the right one. What are the things you want the cart to be able to do for you?

Let's define that first, then I'll see if I can suggest a cart that will fit your needs.
