TOPIC: Login on localhost/joomlatest/administrator goes to index of DIRs

Login on localhost/joomlatest/administrator goes to index of DIRs 3 years 2 months ago #19136

With your help I think I have successfully installed Joomla and am ready to begin building a local test site. When I log into http://localhost/joomlatest/administrator, the screen that comes up is "Index of /joomlatest", the beginning of which looks like this:
[DIR] Parent Directory -
[DIR] administrator/ 26-Jan-2010 08:10 -
[DIR] cache/ 20-Aug-2006 19:37 -
[DIR] components/ 14-Sep-2005 22:55 -
etc.

If I click on the administrator hyperlink, it takes me to the sign in screen, allows me to sign in, and everything looks and works the way it's supposed to. However, when I try preview, the page that opens is "Index of /joomlatest".

How can I fix this? Thanks!

Hi Newbie412,

Is your wamp icon white on the bottom right of your desktop?

Also, where it says:
[DIR] Parent Directory -
[DIR] administrator/ 26-Jan-2010 08:10 -
[DIR] cache/ 20-Aug-2006 19:37 -
[DIR] components/ 14-Sep-2005 22:55

Does it have an index.php file?

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

The wampserver icon on the bottom right of my desktop is green.

There is no index.php file in the index list. The complete list is:

[DIR] Parent Directory -
[DIR] administrator/
[DIR] cache/
[DIR] components/
[ ] configuration.php
[DIR] images/
[DIR] includes/
[DIR] installation backup/
[DIR] language/
[DIR] libraries/
[DIR] logs/
[DIR] media/
[DIR] modules/
[DIR] plugins/
[DIR] templates/
[DIR] tmp/
[DIR] xmlrpc/

Thanks,
Newbie412

Hi Newbie412,

That's the issue then, the missing index.php, which I've never seen it go missing before on an installation. Did you accidentally delete it?

Try following this and install the full 1.5.22 rather than just the patch:
www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-up...min-tools-extension/

That should correct things :)

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Before doing the reinstall you recommended...
I looked for an index.php file in my C:\wamp\www folder. There were two: a 3 kb index.php file, and a 1 kb index2.php. I noticed that neither was in the joomlatest folder. So, I moved the 3 kb index.php file to the joomlatest folder, and what do you know, my test site works just the way the one in the online training course does! (So far ;) )

Thanks so much for your help. You are making a huge contribution to my sanity!

Best,
Newbie412
