Linking articles to buttons and not menus 1 year 1 month ago #44544

Hello,

Right now, I'm a little stumped and perhaps you could help me. On my pages I intend to have the Author's of the books listed. You know, photo, brief bio, link to their site. One of the buttons per Author will be a "browse" button so that if a reader enjoys that particular author's work they can click and see all of their books. I don't want a separate menu module or anything, I just want them to be able to access these books through the browse button for each author listed. I can't quite seem to work out how to do that. I know a link is involved but how I can set up a page without a visible menu...I don't know. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Visual...kind of:

Author Image : Bio

BUTTON = Author site link
BUTTON = Author books

Figured it out! Though, I'd still like to read solutions you may have had. Might give me more ideas for my site.

Thanks!

Hey Tessa,
Will the linking function in JCE to link to articles not linked to menu items not work with SEF URL's ? Is that the point of this tutorial?

Hi Scott,

That's correct. Unless you have a Joomla SEO extension, using JCE's link to article function will not generate SEF URLs. This is because Joomla's core generates SEF URLs via menu items.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick
