TOPIC: K2 item submission form

K2 item submission form 11 months 2 weeks ago #70583

Hi guys,

I haven't been here for a while but I have a new issue and would love your help.

I am trying to create a custom, frontend item submission form in K2 (v 2.6.6) that would show some of the K2 extra fields for the specified category immediately upon loading the form, with other K2 fields (plus media uploads) broken out in the tabs. I have 3 questions:

1) First and foremost, although I have had a fully-functional default K2 item submit form in the past, since I upgraded to 2.6.5 I have only gotten a 403 error when I try to click on my K2 item submit menu link - even when logged in to the frontend as a superuser. I had previously done some experimenting on my K2 submit form but I would have expected that to simply be wiped over with the update. Any ideas??

2) Do you have a tutorial or write-up on working with the new extra fields framework that came out last fall? Specifically, I'm wondering if you still need to include code calling up the fields as an array, or can simply call the extra fields by their alias now without first going through that step.

3) For bonus points you don't by any chance have a tutorial or a model itemform.php I could use to see how to break the extrafields out into the tabs in the default K2 frontend submission form?

Thanks much,
Cheryl

Thanks for the email, Cheryl!

Looks like you're running Joomla 2.5.9 and K2 2.6.5. Please upgrade to Joomla 2.5.11 and K2 2.6.6 and hopefully that will resolve the issue for you. Let me know if it doesn't and I can look into it more.

Hope this helps!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi Cheryl,

I got it to work by going to Components >> K2 >> Users >> switched my account to "Staff" and then the submission form worked for me.

So basically, you need to go to your K2 User Groups area and make sure that the respective user groups are allowed to submit items.

Hope this helps! :)

Kind regards,
Nick

Thank you, Nick, for pointing me in the right direction!

It turns out the permissions settings WERE correct for registered users. Just in case any other members run into the same problem, the issue was that I had lost track of the fact that there is a "K2 User Groups" ACL layer on top of my Joomla ACL, JSPT/JomSocial ACL and ACL Manager interface to all of the above. So what I didn't realize is that my K2 ACL didn't have a separate "Superusers" group in it. Because I was testing something I didn't want others to see, I had set the permissions on the front-end menu item to "special" to hide it from all but superusers and then logged in to the frontend with my superuser account to test it. But this meant I was trying to access frontend editing with a user account that didn't have ANY K2 user group assigned.

[FYI, I had not had this problem with the frontend editing form back on prior versions of K2 2.5.4 so either I never used my secret identity as a super admin or this user groups issue was somehow introduced as part of the update somewhere around version 2.6.5.]

I suppose this begs the question, how do I make sure that my Joomla and K2 user groups stay in sync in the future?

Thanks again,
Cheryl

Thanks again, Nick -- been hitting my head against this one a long time and clearly should have asked you guys earlier!

Best regards,
Cheryl

You're welcome, Cheryl! Glad I could be of help! :)

As to syncing, hmm, I'm not sure that there is a way (without custom coding) to full sync Joomla and K2 user groups. However, in the parameters of K2 you can Enable K2 User Profile. Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Nick
