Is here someone experience with k2 import/export tool ?

As i can not get my web work.. i will move to another template.

I would like someone help me to import/export k2 categories, subcategories, etc....

Hi Tomass,

Could you explain a bit more about what you're trying to ultimately accomplish? If you're moving to another template you can just install it on your current site then enable it as the default. Please take a look at the following two template tutorials from our Joomla 2.5 Beginner class:

i already installed on test site template screenvision.lv/test1

However, it doesnt looks good.

And here is another one with sample data - screenvision.lv/test2
- its good, but i need to modify per my needs and want all my k2 items, categories, etc.. to have here.

BUT, I dont want to make them one more time.. There is quite a lot of them..

Hi Tomass,

It sounds like the best solution for you is to make a copy of your live site. You can use the following tutorial to make an exact copy of your live site to move from server to server or directory to directory:

If you move from directory to directory please make sure you use a different database so that your live site is not affected.

Then in the new test website you can install your new template and configure appropriately.

i have made already copies of my live site and database, so i am only trying things on those sites.

But, now i need to get new template look like with sample data.

To edit sample data is easy.

But, its not so easy when i installed template already on site and it shows like this:
www.screenvision.lv/test1/

Here - > www.screenvision.lv/test2/ - Its easy to customice the basics. etc... BUT, i dont have here all my K2 items and categories etc... - i dont want to rewrite them all..

So this is second time i am mentioning this.

That why i needed help now for k2 import/export, IF someone hav experience with this.

Nic, this doesnt worked.
I tried 2 times:
1) On my existing test site, where i had already k2.
2) Totaly on clean site, where i done all step by steps as You have written.

Yes.. there is tables in database, but NOTHING shows up in Joomla administration..

Is this method workable ?

Or, where i could make something wrong or You havent written all details - maybe i need something more to configure ?

looks like i found one possible thing.. prefix is another for old one.. will change them

How to change prefix on databases ? I wanted to change all prefixes in my database export file - but there is no prefixes...So, then why it imports all old one prefixes in new database ?

Hi Tomass,

If you want to make global changes to your site or database, there are a couple of extensions you might want to use.

www.nonumber.nl/extensions/dbreplacer

This would allow you to make bulk changes to your prefixes.

However check your Global Configuration settings and see which data base prefix is being used by each installation before you change them. You might just be enabling duplicate information.

Upgrading and moving Joomla sites often creates copies of data within the data base and seperates the backups or new data from the original by creating a new prefix for you.

Try changing the data base table prefix in your global configuration to see what data you are going to be affecting if you change prefixes.

What i do with original K2 tables ? - Delete or what ?
Or wi will have duplicate tables and all information will go duplicate ?

Also, i couldnt find how works DB replacer, because i see only one place where to write in changes, but nothing happens..

Yes, the method should work. No, there's no need to delete your original tables from your live site and there shouldn't be duplicates. If on the test site you have k2 tables, you can uninstall k2 and delete the k2 tables, then import the ones from your live site, then install k2.
