Hey everyone,

I'm a new user to OSTraining and although I know my way in Joomla I simply am convinced of this website's concept and trainings.

I first went to the Joomla 2.5 template training and downloaded the exercise files. However, the files provided do not match the example showing in the videos? It's pretty hard to follow the example if there are things missing.

E. g. all the sliced files (pt 2, sessions 1 to 3) are nowhere to be found. It's not so difficult because I can slice them myself. However, I couldn't locate the header image file for non-homepage (Vicky calls it cooking-with-kids-other-pages.jpg). This would be harder to create yourself as I have no clue about the size of the file.

Can you maybe help me here? Thanks in advance!

Phil

Hi Phil,

Our sincerest apologies for that! We're working on getting you those files. Sorry for the delay!

Hi inservo,

sorry for the confusion. If you go to the session entitled "Slicing the Design File", I've uploaded the 3 meal images, as well as the header you mentioned.

I'm putting the images on each of the 3 sessions you mentioned... should be there shortly

hth

one thing to mention in addition (you may forward that to Vicki) is that it's not always clear to see all the code in the video (it gets cut off). So I have to open the files to see the code which could sometimes result in not the best learning effect (at least for me)

honestly, after taking so more parts of this course I personally do thing it has to be rewritten completely. Here are the main pain points (which make proceeding from within the course very difficult):
  • missing example files for each step of the way. Would be great so you could control if you did it right
  • videos sometimes not clear
  • she's simply leaving stuff out. I'm currently in the step where I upload the template and I don't see anything in there.

Sorry guys, but Vicki clearly misses the target with this course. That needs to be enhanced! Due to the fact that Vicki does not show everything there is no chance at all for me to find out the mistake and proceed.

That is really really bad!!!

Hi inservo

Apologies for the difficulties.
missing example files for each step of the way. Would be great so you could control if you did it right

We could add the code snippets beneath each video. Would that help?
videos sometimes not clear

Do you have any examples that we can fix?
I'm currently in the step where I upload the template and I don't see anything in there.

Could you explain this a bit more? What was left out? We'll fix it for you.
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

hi steve,

thanks for your kind support.

Ok, so I have installed the provided example files. Have a look here:

tandem-kayak.org/jtest/

This template looks completely different than the one shown in the course. Therefore I assume somehow the wrong files were uploaded.

Hi inservo

No problem, we're happy to make the class clearer for you.

We'll start by adding the code snippets to each class.

Look at that template example, you're missing all of the images with the exception of the background image. Are you sure they all uploaded correctly.
Ask. We'll help. It's as simple as that.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your response. Sorry, but the files provided do not match what is shown in the videos which is somehow unsatisfactory. Do me a favor and try to install it yourself and you'll see.

I re-downloaded the template files / example files provided from within the course and here are two fresh and clean Joomla installations with them

1. Installation with demo content (as above):

tandem-kayak.org/jtest/

2. Installation without demo content:

tandem-kayak.org/joomla16/

I have installed and activated the cooking-with-kids template from the course. That's totally different than what is shown inside. So my question would be:

Could you maybe for each section of the class provide the code snippets discussed? That would enable me to proceed with this otherwise great course. Thanks in advance.

Phil

Hi Phil,

Just wanted to give you a quick update. We had a business meeting today and decided that getting the snippets into the Template Design class will be a top priority. We're going to get started on them within the next hour and will let you know as soon as they are done.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hey Nick,

thanks for your very positive response. Looking very much forward to it so I could proceed with the course.

For everybody reading this: THis is an amazing example of customer care. One could start a rant about how incomplete these files are etc. etc. but OSTraining is here to solve this problem. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time but some of OSTrainings competitors seem to think that once a user has signed up there is no need to longer take care of him. This company here is different (as it should be). If you ever plan to found a business try to act like OSTraining when it comes to handling your customers.

Hi Nick and everyone,

any idea or time plan when the updated code snippets / template files will be available? Currently I cannot proceed with the course on a practical level as I cannot compare my version to the original files. This is a little bit annoying to be honest.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Also, if it's OK with you, I'm going to extend your account subscription by two weeks free-of-charge as an apology for the inconvenience.

Hey Nick,

That is very very generous of OSTraining. I hope you don't see me as the little pain in the back. Just wanted to get a rough timeline as there is enough good stuff here to learn.

Hopefully my wording is not too offensive (as I am not a native speaker)

Thanks again!

Hi Phil,

Can you try the class now? The snippets have been added at the bottom of the respective lessons:

Please let us know how the new format works for you. Thanks in advance!
